Maria Menounos emotionally opened up about the devastating moment when only one embryo implanted after transferring two during a preview of her upcoming Heal Squad podcast episode, per People.Â
The talented journalist, 44, stated in the short snippet that after transferring two embryos, she ‘really believed’ both she and husband, Keven Undergaro, 55, would welcome twins.Â
The Emmy winner confirmed the happy news that she was expecting their first child with her husband of five years via surrogacy earlier this month to the entertainment outlet.
Their journey to start a family began ten years earlier in 2012 with IVF, and the former E! News host also revealed that close friend, Kim Kardashian, had given her helpful advice in regards to the surrogacy process.Â
During the preview of her podcast episode that is set to air in full later on Monday, February 13, Maria movingly recalled, ‘We did implant two, I really, really believed we were gonna have two.’Â

‘I would talk to them at night in my prayers and I really thought that was gonna work out,’ the TV presenter explained.Â
However, the star soon found out a saddening update when both she and her husband joined a Zoom call ‘after we found out we were pregnant.’Â
Maria stated that, ‘the surrogate was like ‘baby is doing great.’ So here’s me and Keven in front of the iPad, we’re so excited, we’re gonna find out we have twins in there, it’s gonna be amazing.’Â
‘And she says ‘baby is doing great,’ and the two of us just freeze,’ the journalist emotionally expressed. ‘I understood so many people’s pain so fast in that moment because I really was sure we were gonna have two.’Â
The podcast host then remembered the moment when, ‘tears were streaming down my face.’ Maria explained that within that small frame of time, she had to do a ‘mental switch’ in order to come to terms that they would only have one child.Â
‘You just have to be grateful for what you have and we are so grateful. I do believe that God knows what we can handle.’Â
Earlier this month, the former Today correspondent confirmed she was expecting baby number via surrogacy with Keven after a difficult fertility journey.Â
She told People, ‘Just after a decade of trying everything, we are so grateful to the beautiful family helping us conceive our baby,’ and added that both she and her husband, along with her father, ‘are all beyond excited for this soul to come into our lives. What a blessing.’Â Â

In 2018, Maria and Keven began to look into surrogacy when IVF didn’t work for them. She expressed that Kim Kardashian, who welcomed two children via surrogate, was a big help.Â
‘I was grateful that I had her to share and help me,’ the star stated, adding that the reality star, ‘was just so lovely and so amazing and very patient with us.’Â
On a post shared on Instagram earlier on Tuesday, the beauty once again thanked Kim, along with a list of others who had helped along the journey, such as Avatar actress, Zoe Saldana and Family Match Consulting.Â
Maria then penned a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, ‘I know my mom had a cup of greek coffee with god and said it’s time. So grateful for the blessing in our lives.’Â
‘Cant believe I’m sharing this news without her in the physical , but I know she made it happen on the other side and is going to be with me every step of the way,’ she continued. ‘Thank you all for your love! We are just so grateful!’Â
The TV host also shared a cute snap with her husband as the two stood close to each other while flashing cheerful smiles towards the camera.Â
The photo was taken on set of Live With Kelly And Ryan, and Maria held a baby onesie with the show’s logo printed on the front. Keven happily held a paper sign with ‘We’re having a baby,’ written with black sharpie.Â

‘We’ve tried everything, literally everything,’ the star revealed. ‘They tried to get me pregnant, that didn’t work. Keven had a surgery, that didn’t work.’Â
The One Tree Hill actress further expressed, ‘He’s hung me upside-down like a chicken, that didn’t work. We did everything. But we got so lucky.’Â Â
