Taylor Swift shared her thoughts on the engagement rumors surrounding her and boyfriend of six years Joe Alwyn, on her newly released 10th studio album Midnights.

The singer, 32, opened up the album with a track titled ‘Lavender Haze’ singing: ‘All they keep asking me/ Is if I’m gonna be your bride/ The only kinda girl they see/ Is a one night or a wife.’

She then appeared to hit back at the outdated line of questioning: ‘I’m damned if I do give a damn what people say/ The 1950s s*** they want from me.’

Swift recently shared that she actually picked up the name for the track about her beau, 31, from TV series Mad Men – which takes place during the 1960’s.

‘I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it’s a common phrase used in the ’50s, where they would just describe being in love,’ she shared on her TikTok series, Midnights, Mayhem & Me.

At the time the pop singer revealed her relationship was the inspiration behind the track: ‘We’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. And so this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.’

Taylor, who has been dating Joe since 2016, also detailed their love on a track named Sweet Nothing, and even enlisted his help as a co-writer.

In Sweet Nothing’s, Taylor sings: ‘I found myself running home to your sweet nothings, I’ll take their pushing, shoving. You’re in the kitchen humming, all that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing.’

Taylor implies that whilst everyone else want’s something from her, Joe is the one person who remained genuine and true.

She also appears to reference her love on Snow on the Beach – which features Lana Del Rey – crooning: ‘Now I’m all for you like Janet/ Can this be a real thing/ Can it?’ in reference to Janet Jackson’s hit, All for You.

The album’s final track on Midnights, titled Mastermind, revealed that she was the one who masterminded the romance – a fact her other half appears to appreciate.

‘So I told you none of it was accidental and the first night that you saw me nothing was gonna stop me/ I laid the groundwork and then saw a wide smirk on your face/ You knew the entire time.’

This isn’t the first time that Taylor has enlisted Joe’s help as he previously featured under his pseudonym of William Bowery on her previous albums Folklore and Evermore.

The Sun claimed that the singer has been wearing an engagement ring ‘behind closed doors’ and that the couple have only informed their close friends of the news.

‘Taylor and Joe are incredibly happy, and very, very in love,’ a source claiming to be close to Joe told the outlet at the start of July.

‘They’ve actually been engaged for a few months but have only told their inner-inner circle — basically immediate family, and trusted, very old friends.

‘Everyone has been sworn to secrecy, too.’

The insider alleged that Joe presented Taylor with a ‘beautiful ring’ but ‘she only wears it when she’s at home’, i.e., behind closed doors.
