Matthew Morrison’s wife Renee Puente took to Instagram Thursday in support of her husband after he was fired as a judge on the Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance amid allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant.
The Hawaii-born actress and model, 37, reposted a video statement Morrison, 43, made in his defense, in which he recited a seemingly innocuous text message he sent a contestant that led to his ouster from the show, vowing he had ‘nothing to hide.’
Puente said of Morrison’s clip: ‘My husband has finally been given an opportunity to speak his truth’ and ‘has done so with such grace and integrity in a situation that is complex and incredibly complicated.’

Puente, paraphrasing what her husband said in his clip, said that ‘gossip and cruelty are poison that have penetrated the depths of our society and somehow have made people forget their true nature – Love & compassion.’
She shared a quotation from author Jay Shetty that read, ‘Negativity is a trait, not someone’s identity. A [person’s] true nature can be obscured by clouds, but, like the sun it is always there. And clouds can overcome any of us.’
Puente followed up in saying, ‘Perspective my people,’ adding, ‘Stop perpetuating hate and shame. Period. NO ONE DESERVES IT.’
Puente, who first met Morrison in 2011 and exchanged vows with him in Maui, Hawaii three years later, shared another quotation, from late monk Thich Nhat Hanh.
Morrison, 43, defended himself in an Instagram clip Thursday after he was fired last week as a judge on the Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance amid allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant
Morrison said he sent the text message in an effort to try and help get a mutual colleague hired by the Fox show
Morrison said the text message read, ‘Hey it’s Matthew, if you don’t mind, would love to get your number and talk [about] some things’
It read: ‘Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything – anger, anxiety, or possessions – we cannot be free.’
Puente said, ‘We let go and go into freedom’ and thanked the people ‘who have shined love and light in our lives through this.’
She wrapped up in saying, ‘To all the rest – sending Love & Light.’
Morrison earlier on Thursday defended himself in an Instagram clip in which he said he had ‘nothing to hide,’ and recited the text message he sent to the contestant.  Â
‘It’s really unfortunate that I really have to defend myself and my family against blatantly untrue statements made anonymously, but I have nothing to hide,’ Morrison said. ‘In the interest of transparency, I will read to you the one message that I wrote to a dancer on the show: “Hey it’s Matthew, if you don’t mind, would love to get your number and talk [about] some things.” The end.’

‘And no way I want this to take away from the show because dance has always been a unifying and healing modality and I genuinely wish all the contestants and my fellow judges all the best,’ he said.Â
The contestant spoke with producers about the 43-year-old entertainer after he ‘reached out to her through flirty direct messages on social media,’ a source told People Tuesday, noting that ‘they didn’t have sex’ and ‘never met up off-set.’
The source told the outlet the contestant ‘felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers, who then got Fox involved.’

Morrison ‘was fired after they did their own investigation,’ the source said, adding that ‘it was just messages that crossed the line.’Â
Morrison and his wife of seven years, Renee Puente, 37, are parents to two children, son Revel James Makai, four, and 11-month-old daughter Phoenix Monroe.Â
Morrison announced his departure from his judging role last week, saying in a statement to the outlet, ‘After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly.
‘Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honor for me. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show.’

‘I grew up as a break dancer, like when I was really young and then I transitioned into, you know, ballet, tap, and jazz and my first roles on Broadway before I started doing leads were as a dancer. After becoming the runner-up on So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, he returned to shake a leg on the program multiple times before becoming a judge in 2018.
