The Block’s serial bidder Danny Wallis admits he ‘spent too much’ on Omar and Oz’s winning home after getting into a frenzied bidding war with their ‘millionaire mate’

For the third year in a row, quirky millionaire Danny Wallis purchased three of the properties at The Block’s auction for a staggering $14 million.

The Melbourne-based IT entrepreneur was the only buyer at this year’s auctions and purchased winner’s Omar and Oz’s property for a jaw-dropping $5.6 million after getting into a frenzied bidding war with their ‘millionaire mate’ Adrian Portelli – an online promotions guru with a net worth of $8million.

Portelli –  who arrived at the auction in a flashy yellow Lamborghini and seemed to know Omar and Oz well – opened the bidding on House 5 at $4.5million, which was much higher than the $4.08million reserve price.

His aggressive bidding meant Wallis ended up paying an eye-watering $5,666,666.66 for the four-bedroom, 10-acre property, making the boys instant millionaires with total winnings of $1,686,666.66.

Wallis reflected on his expensive purchases and said he believes he overpaid for Omar and Oz’s property but got the other two for a bargain.

‘I probably spent too much at the first auction, but was surprised to pick up two more homes at what I feel was a bargain price, so I guess it all evened out in the end for me at least,’ he said.

Danny also shelled out $4.1million on Tom and Sarah Jane’s house and a cool $4.249million on Rachel and Ryan’s.

Danny declined to purchase either Ankur and Sharon’s or Dylan and Jenny’s home – with properties failing to sell.

His purchases mark the third consecutive year Danny has saved Block contestants by spending big at auction.

He snapped up three homes last year for a combined $12.25million.

Danny is a familiar face at The Block auctions. In 2020, he placed a bid on all five properties and purchased Mitch and Mark’s for $3.374 million.

He also purchased one of the properties in the 2012 season for $1.4million.

However, some argued Danny has worn out his welcome, with many fans slamming his ‘annoying’ bidding style during Sunday’s finale after he held up the auction while he sought ‘advice’ from his dog.

‘Do the people at #theblock know the whole ‘Danny’ thing takes away all and any credibility of this show?!’ one person wrote on Twitter.

‘How can anyone respect Danny honestly,’ another asked, while one more chimed in: ‘Danny suuuuuuucks’.
