Team USA WAGs will STAY with their partners ahead of match  against England tomorrow

Gareth Southgate may have shown England’s WAGS the red card by not allowing them to visit the team hotel in Qatar but when it comes to their US rivals, there have been no such problems as they prepare for tomorrow’s crunch encounter.

Ahead of the match, the wives and girlfriends of US players have been given permission to spend time with their partners in the luxurious five-star Marsa Malaz Kempinski, where they are staying.

While England’s players have been confined to briefly meeting their WAGS at the end of matches in the stadium in public view, their US counterparts have been enjoying the opulent splendour of the hotel with their partners during what is officially called ‘family time.’

Those that have children are also allowed to bring them along with US officials insisting that private time for the players with their families helps team morale.

US WAGS that are believed to have visited the team hotel in the run up to the game against England included Ashley Herron, Marrissa Horton, Elsie Hansen, Ryan Chaisty, Milana D’Ambra, Kristen Sapienza and Sara Schmidt.

A US official said: ‘Family time is a very important part of our World Cup camp. It’s important for the players to be able to see their kids, if they have them and their significant others.

‘I know a lot of teams don’t allow this, but we believe that it helps with the mental well-being of our players. It also improves their performance on the pitch and could help us beat England.’

The luxurious Marsa Malaz Kempinski has earned the US the unofficial title of having the tournament’s best team hotel and not surprisingly, their WAGS have been regular visitors.

It is located on The Pearl in Doha, a stunning private man-made island which feels as if you are in a plush Mediterranean resort rather than the Middle East.

It has been dubbed the ‘Arabian Rivera,’ and the opulent 281-room Kempinski is one of the stand-out properties on The Pearl and comes with its own private beach, eleven top end restaurants and bars, tennis courts, luxury spa, an indoor games room and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.

The cheapest rooms at the hotel, which offer views across the Arabian Gulf cost around £500 per night when the World Cup is not on but have almost trebled in price during the tournament.

Suites start at an eye-watering £15,000 and come with their own private concierge, a private pool and jacuzzi, an indoor and outdoor dining area with guests ferried to and from the hotel in limousines.

Food and drinking options in the hotel include an American diner and a range of Spanish, Latin American, Japanese and Middle Eastern restaurants. There is also a cigar lounge and a trendy rooftop bar as well as a jazz bar.

If they did have the chance to visit the players, England’s WAGS would perhaps not be too impressed, given what their American counterparts are enjoying.

England are staying in the relatively modest Souq Al Wakra Hotel, which is located in a sleepy suburb just outside Doha and does not serve any alcohol.

When the World Cup is not taking place, rooms range in prices from £65 to £150 and the 101-room property has been built Arabic style around a courtyard surrounded by trees and fountains.

The hotel has a restaurant, coffee bar, tiny gym, small swimming pool and a basic spa offering few of the lavish facilities enjoyed by the US team.

The England team have brought their own table football and ping-pong tables to help keep players occupied.

Speaking of the team’s stay in the Kempinski, a US official commented: ‘Without doubt, this is the best hotel that any team is staying in.

‘I don’t think we’re favourites for the England match or the World Cup but at least we can hold our heads up high and say we’ve got the best team hotel. It’s like staying in a palace, it’s an absolutely gorgeous place and we’re loving every minute of it.’

He added: ‘That’s Americans for you. We like to do things in style.’

Tim Ream and Kristen Sapienza

Fulham's Tim Ream, 35, from St. Louis, Missouri, who will play defender for the US team at the World Cup, has been married to Kristen Sapienza for 10 years, and together, they've welcomed three kids named Aiden, Theodore, and Lila

Fulham’s Tim Ream, 35, from St. Louis, Missouri, who will play defender for the US team at the World Cup, has been married to Kristen Sapienza for 10 years, and together, they’ve welcomed three kids named Aiden, Theodore, and Lila

Tim Ream, 35, from St. Louis, Missouri, played for Saint Louis University, but he also played for Chicago Fire Premiere during his college years. He was drafted to New York Red Bulls in 2010, before signing to England’s Bolton Wanderers in 2012.

He was sold to the English team Fulham in 2015, and now, he will play defender for the US team at the upcoming World Cup.

He and his wife-of-10-years, Kristen Sapienza, are very private when it comes to their relationship – she doesn’t use social media and he has only shared one photo with her on his account.

They got together during college, since they both played soccer for St. Louis. In an interview with NewYorkRedBulls.com, Tim explained that he was instantly drawn in by her ‘smile’ and ‘great personality.’

‘The first thing I noticed about her was her smile. I’m not sappy like that, but I really noticed how amazing her smile was,’ he gushed.

‘I said, “Wow.” But she also has a great personality, she’s always fun to be around whether we’re doing something or just chilling. And the conversations are great – whether we’re talking deep or talking about a whole lot of nothing.’

The two got engaged two years into their relationship, and tied the knot in January 2012. Tim recalled proposing to Kristen after a romantic stroll in Hoboken, New Jersey, with a view of Manhattan across the river.

He said she had complained about not being able to see the skyline clearly, when he responded, ‘The important stuff isn’t out there, it is right here,’ as he got down on one knee.

‘After some screaming, she did say yes,’ he continued. ‘We hugged and kissed and then she called her parents.’

According to ZGR.net, Tim actually canceled his honeymoon with Kristen – which was supposed to take place in Tahiti – so he could sign to Bolton. But his wife was allegedly supportive of his decision, since she understood the seriousness of his job.

The couple have welcomed three children together over the years, named Aiden, Theodore, and Lila. Back in May, Tim shared a rare photo with his family after winning the Sky Bet Championship.

‘I try to keep my private and public lives separate but last night was a special occasion that calls for a special post,’ he wrote at the time.

‘This is my team behind the scenes. The ones who support and love me unconditionally and allow me to do what I do.

‘They are my best friend, my fiercest critics, and my energizer bunnies. I couldn’t do this without them and I’m buzzing we did last night together. Love you all to the moon and back.’
