Trans assistant health secretary Rachel Levine – who wants to ‘normalize’ gender affirming treatment for children – says she’s happy she waited until after she had kids in resurfaced 2019 video

  • Rachel Levine said doctors the care have government’s ‘highest level of support’
  • She herself waited until she was 54 and had raised two kids before transitioning
  • In 2019, she admitted having ‘no regrets’ because it allowed her to have a family

The transgender assistant health secretary who wants to make ‘normalizing’ gender affirming care for kids a government priority admitted that she is happy she waited until after having her own children before starting treatment.

Dr. Rachel Levine – the first openly transgender government official – is among Biden officials pushing to make it easier for children under the age of 18 to change genders.

She began her transition in 2011, when she was 54. She’d already been married for 23 years and raised two children, both of whom are now young adults, and says she’s glad she waited so long because it allowed her to have a family.

‘I have no regrets because if I had transitioned when I was younger then I wouldn’t have my children. I can’t imagine a life without my children,’ Levine said during a 2019 speech about gender care.

Despite her own experience, she thinks it should become easier for other kids to start treatment as teenagers, even if it costs them their ability to have their own children later in life.

In the 2019 speech, she said teenagers today aren’t ‘willing to do that’.

‘I don’t know if I was 15 today, if I would take so long.’

Levine yesterday stated on a podcast that doctors offering gender affirming care to youngsters have the full support of the Biden administration.

Speaking on a podcast hosted by Connecticut Children’s Hospital, she said: ‘I can say that you, the children that you serve, the young people that you serve, their families, and you all have support at the highest levels of the federal government.

‘President Biden supports you. I as the Assistant Secretary for Health will support you and I talk about this topic, everywhere I go, to get the word out.’

She also told of her hope that it would become less of a political ‘minefield’.

Levine’s remarks about normalizing puberty blockers – some of which can cause bone fractures – sparked fury among Republicans and physicians.

Rep. Andy Harris, a member of the House Doctors Caucus and Co-Chair of the Pro-Life Caucus, said that Levine’s comments are ‘reprehensible.’

‘It’s reprehensible for a government official, let alone the Assistant U.S. Secretary of HHS to promote the genital mutilation of minors as becoming a standard practice in the U.S,’ he said.

‘As a physician, I was proud to co-sponsor the ‘Protect Children’s Innocence Act’ which would prohibit harmful medical procedures used to treat gender dysphoria in transgender minors, including puberty blockers and surgeries in which minors alter their body to correspond to a sex that differs from their biological sex.’

He added: ‘Many pediatricians, particularly pediatric endocrinologists, have expressed serious concerns about the use of puberty blockers, hormone blockers, and sex transition surgeries in minors.
