Winners of BBC‘s The Traitors have revealed they were ‘shocked’ to discover Wilfred Webster was the final traitor during Thursday night’s finale of the reality show.
Aaron Evans, 24, Meryl Williams, 25, and Hannah Byczkowski, 32, made the confession while appearing on Friday’s This Morning for the first time since winning.
Comedian Hannah admitted she got over the surprise quite quickly since it meant she would win a whopping £100k as per the show’s rules.
‘Our hands were sweating!’ The Traitors winners Aaron, Meryl (centre) and Hannah (left) have revealed their ‘shock’ during THAT final showdown as they react to winning the £100k prize
She told presenters Josie Gibson and Andi Peters: ‘I’m really loud so I thought, “Don’t be a threat to anyone, don’t be someone they want to get rid of,” and then I was the first on the roundtable! I thought, “You absolute idiot.”
She added: ‘When Wilf said he was a traitor, I was like, “Well we’ve just won a hundred grand,” before Meryl chimed in: ‘I was so shocked.
‘I was sad to lose my friend but I wanted to get out the traitors. It’s hard to differentiate between friendships and contestants because we built such strong good friendships in there.’
On making it to the final, Hannah then joked: ‘My family were like, “Has she been kidnapped? She must be doing well.’
Success: The nail-biting show came to an end on Thursday evening as Hannah, Aaron and Meryl won the whopping prize fund of £101,050, split evenly between them
Aaron added: ‘Watching it back, it’s overwhelming. After a couple of days, I was like, “What’s everyone’s names?”
‘The tasks were the favourite things to do on the show, we were jumping out of helicopters and on speed boats, it was so much like James Bond.’
Meryl spoke about the intense roundtable sections, where the group gathers to discuss who they suspect of being a traitor before banishing a contestant.
She said: ‘Our hands were sweating. It was so intense. I was thinking, “Do I drink the water or will they think I’m a traitor?”‘

The nail-biting show came to an end on Thursday evening as Hannah, Aaron and Meryl won the whopping prize fund of £101,050, split evenly between them.
Following her win, Meryl revealed that she hopes to follow in host Claudia Winkleman‘s footsteps and become a presenter, while both Hannah and Aaron are heading in a new career direction after quitting their jobs.
Speaking after her win, Meryl explained: ‘I work at a call centre as a customer service agent and I really want to break into the television and journalism industry in presenting.’
‘I’m going to use this time and money to get into that’, she added in a chat shared by The Sun.
Entertaining: Presenters Josie Gibson and Andi Peters are big fans of the show too
Shock: Aaron added: ‘Watching it back, it’s overwhelming. After a couple of days, I was like, “What’s everyone’s names?”‘
Meanwhile, Hannah had walked away from her job doing care assessments ahead of the show and while she’s stepped foot into the industry, she now plans to become a full-time comedian.
While Aaron also quit his job as a property agent and will go travelling in 2023, which he plans to document on YouTube amid his plans to become a vlogger.
However, despite earning a whopping £33k from his share of the money, Aaron stuck to his promise to give the cash to his mother for a deposit on a house.
Revealing her reaction, he explained: ‘She was crying when I came back from the show and then once I told her, she started crying even more. It was really emotional.’
So close! It was a close call for the three winners after traitor Wilfred (pictured) almost made it before being caught out as he and Kieran Tompsett turned on one another
Meanwhile, the hunk has already garnered much attention and flirty comments in his DMs following the show.
He said: ‘I’ve had a lot of love and a lot of mums offering hugs up. There’s a fan page right now of me in trousers.’
Thursday night’s tense finale was a close call for the three winners after Wilfred Webster almost made it before being caught out as he and fellow traitor Kieran Tompsett turned on one another.
Kieran was first to be voted out by the other four contestants in the final, but left with a cryptic ‘parting gift’ as he revealed to the others that he thought Wilf was a traitor.
New beginnings: Aaron, Meryl, Hannah and host Claudia Winkleman are pictured (L-R)
On finding out her best pal Wilf betrayed her, Hannah said: ‘It was such a shock because I had never even considered him.
‘We had bonded so much that I was like, “How does nobody else see that he’s a faithful?” It didn’t occur to me ever.
When he said it, I could see the relief and happiness in his face at the outcome.’
On how the game will affect her trust in others, she added: ‘I’m never going to be able to have a relationship again. I suppose it has actually.’
Meryl said of Wilf’s deceit: ‘I was in shock. I literally dropped to the floor when Wilf told us he was a traitor. I did not believe it.
‘I felt complete shock like, “How did you lie to me and Hannah for so long?” But it’s a game and he was playing the game so well.’
While Aaron shared: ‘At the end of the day it is a game.
‘Even if it had gone Wilf’s way, there would have been no hard feelings.’
Fingers crossed! Following her win, Meryl revealed that she hopes to follow in host Claudia’s (pictured) footsteps and become a presenter
