So what’s the beef? How the world’s biggest football stars were desperate to be pictured with celebrity chef Salt Bae – years before his attempt to gatecrash Argentina’s World Cup win caused uproar
Unearthed footage of Salt Bae rubbing shoulders with stars at the 2018 Champions League final has thrown up more confusion over football’s new-found disdain for the celebrity chef.
The fame-hungry social media star has caused controversy in recent days after he made his way onto the pitch after Argentina’s trophy presentation following their World Cup win against France on Sunday.
Salt Bae, real name Nusret Gokce, stole the limelight as he looked to get photos of himself with Lionel Messi and Co with the World Cup trophy.

Messi gave him short shrift, repeatedly ignoring Salt Bae’s attempts to grab his attention, while Angel Di Maria and Lisandro Lopez both looked uncomfortable as Salt Bae muscled in on the celebrations.
Clips from four years ago, though, show that access to the victory party is something the chef has become accustomed to, after Real Madrid stars clamoured to celebrate their European triumph over Liverpool with him in Kyiv.
Footage has emerged of Salt Bae joining Real Madrid‘s celebrations, posing for pictures with Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo, as well as being afforded the opportunity to hold the illustrious trophy for himself.
Salt Bae got onto the pitch after the match, but Lionel Messi did not look pleased to see him
After Madrid had seen off Liverpool 3-1 in the final at the Olympic National Sports Complex Stadium, Salt Bae was allowed behind the scenes to hang out Ronaldo and Ramos.
Unlike Argentina’s players, the Madrid duo actually seemed to enjoy Salt Bae’s company, with Ronaldo laughing and joking with the steak magnate.
Ramos was also in a playful mood as he performed Salt Bae’s trademark move, pretending to sprinkle salt into the Champions League trophy.
The clip finishes with Madrid defender Marcelo also miming sprinkling salt, while Salt Bae gives a thumbs-up to the camera.

Lisandro Martinez looked like he didn’t want to have a picture with Salt Bae
Salt Bae has also brought up the subject of his previously warm encounters with Messi on social media, posting a video of them embracing and posing after meeting in Dubai four years ago.
FIFA confirmed on Thursday that they will be investigating how Salt Bae got onto the pitch after the World Cup final.
Their rules stipulate that only heads of state and a select group of people, including former World Cup winners, can touch the trophy, but Salt Bae managed to get his hands on it.
The governing body have vowed to take ‘internal action’ once they have established the full facts.
Salt Bae’s relationship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino has come into question since the incident after a video emerged of the pair together at the former’s steak restaurant last year.
Infantino gave Salt Bae a VIP pass to the final, despite the chef having no links or ties to football, either team, or the tournament itself.
