Madelyn Cline chat about her former relationship with Outer Banks costar Chase Stokes, how they’ve worked together cordially since, and the show’s balanced payroll in a new interview with Cosmopolitan.

The actress-model, 25, chatting with the magazine’s February/March edition, said that she and Stokes, 30, have been fine working with one another since their split in November 2021 following more than a year of dating.

‘We always said that the job remains untouched,’ the Goose Creek, South Carolina native told the publication. ‘Nothing else, personal or negative, will touch the job.’

She added that ‘while that’s not always easy, our job is to leave the show better than we found it, to leave the season better than we found it.’

Cline, who plays the role of Sarah Cameron on the Netflix teen drama opposite Stokes’ John B. Routledge character, said she was ‘really appreciative of’ the professionalism in moving forward on the streaming series.

The Glass Onion actress opened up about the difficulties of fame, when asked about if she was going to address her breakup from Stokes publicly.

‘My thing is, I don’t owe anyone an explanation,’ Cline said. ‘I am a really private person. There’s a part of me that is for me and nobody else.’

Cline said she came to understand ‘in hindsight’ that ‘making [her] relationship public made it everybody else’s business.’

The actress, who has also been seen on Stranger Things, said that the emotional impact of the split hit her ‘like a freight train’ at the time.

‘I realized the negative side effects of that while going through the breakup, realizing I had let people in and then felt like I couldn’t get anybody out. I wanted us both to move on and be happy. People see the need for sides. There are no sides – there’s no winning or losing in a breakup,’ Cline said.

Cline, without naming names, said that she is currently ‘happily taken’ in a relationship.

‘All I know is he makes me incredibly happy,’ she said. ‘And I’ve truly never been happier, and I feel very, very empowered. Love is tight. And when you find something like that, you fight for that s***. And also, you fight to keep it yours, you know?’
