A mother claims to have shed 30lbs since ditching fruit and veg and eating butter, bacon and burgers.

Courtney Luna from California claims her new eating habits have cured her acne and allowed her to give up her anxiety medication.

The 38-year-old ‘yoyo dieter’, who went from 191lbs to 161lbs, insists she has more energy since starting her meat-heavy diet six months ago.

The stay-at-home mother, who has been mocked by people who claims her new lifestyle is unhealthy, says she gets all the nutrients she needs, and has vowed to never touch a carb or plant-based food again.

Meat-heavy diet which stay-at-home mum claims will shed the pounds

Breakfast: Two quarter pounder burger patties with three tablespoons of butter or cottage cheese

Lunch: One burger patty with butter and bacon

Dinner: A small steak and carnivore ice cream (cream and egg yolk)

According to Ms Luna, eating vegetables stopped her from shedding the pounds, because they triggered cravings for sugary foods.

Ms Luna said: ‘I eat only meat and animal products so lots of burger patties, egg, steak, bacon, a lot cream, butter and cheese.

‘No vegetables or fruit and I don’t even have spices. Vegetables and fruit can cause a lot of issues for people. There are anti nutrients in them and people with auto immune diseases or skin diseases can be sensitive.

‘I can get all the nutrients I need from meat. I don’t want the gas and bloating from vegetables. As for fruit, it’s not good to be on a high fat diet and also be on carbs and sugar.

‘You need to pick one fuel source. Either you’re burning fat or you’re burning carbs. I feel better on the fat.

‘If I were to have a piece of fruit right now it would trigger sugar cravings and before you know it, I’d be at McDonald’s craving a McFlurry.

‘It goes against everything we’ve been told that is healthy for us. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been opening my eyes to blindly believing everything we’ve been told. A lot of questioning everything has been happening.’

And for dinner she tucks into a steak followed by homemade ‘carnivore ice cream’ made from cream and an egg yolk.

She says she’s stopped craving sugar completely and wakes up every day looking forward to dining on her meaty meals.

She added: ‘The desires are all gone. Once you get the sugar out of your system you don’t have those cravings. Even being around it and knowing it would taste good, there’s no desire. If I had something it would be a slippery slope.

‘If we go to a restaurant, I usually get a steak or a burger patty with cheese and bacon but I wouldn’t have chips or a bun.

‘I don’t need to snack because what I’m eating is so satiating and the fat is so filling that there isn’t the need. If I get hungry then it’s time to eat a meal.

‘People always ask me if I get bored of eating the same thing. It’s so weird but I don’t. Every day I get excited for my burger patties and steaks.

‘I’ve heard when smokers stop smoking their tastebuds come alive and I feel like because I’m only eating meat, meat is all my body wants. It’s so exciting and delicious.’

She said: ‘I’ve lost 30lbs so far. I’ve got another 30lbs to go. I’ve had acne my whole life and that has drastically cleared up.

‘My digestion is better and there’s no gas or bloating from the fibre in fruit and vegetables. My mood has improved drastically. I was able to go off my medication for anxiety and depression.

‘The main reason I tried this was because I was feeling so horrible and lethargic. I would wake up feeling exhausted and this has drastically improved my energy.

‘I’ve always been a yoyo dieter and I’ve never kept the weight off. This is the first time I’ve tried something going at it from a health perspective and not focusing on the weight loss.

‘I’m seeing the end of the road of these different ways of eating because I’ve finally found what works for me and what is sustainable for me.

‘I’ve been on regular keto that allows for vegetables and treats. I tried weight watchers, the grapefruit diet, you name it, I’ve tried it.’

WHAT IS THE CARNIVORE DIET? AND IS IT SAFE?

Followers of the carnivore diet typically eat just meat, with no carbohydrates, vegetables, fruit, grains or nuts. Some also have dairy and fish.

Experts argue followers of such an eating regimen miss out on fibre, antioxidants and vitamins. Lacking in these nutrients can affect a person’s immunity, digestion, circulation and cognitive function.

Eliminating most of the major food groups does cause many carnivore dieters to lose weight, however, it can also lead to constipation.

Due to meat being rich in protein and fat, many followers claim they feel fuller for longer, even though they are missing out on vital nutrients.

Experts claim followers of such a diet may initially feel better due to them cutting out sugar and processed food. Yet such eating plans are often unsustainable, causing dieters to feel frustrated and defeated.

Among those who take it one step further and eat raw red meat, they are putting themselves at risk of food poisoning if they become infected with bacteria like Salmonella.

Some experts have warned against the meat-only diet, with excessive amounts of red meat previously linked to bowel cancer.

The NHS states: ‘Red meat – such as beef, lamb and pork – is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals, and can form part of a balanced diet. But eating a lot of red and processed meat probably increases your risk of bowel (colorectal) cancer.

‘That’s why it’s recommended that people who eat more than 90g (cooked weight) of red and processed meat per day cut down to 70g, as this could help reduce your risk of bowel cancer.’

Ms Luna documents her weight loss journey on social media but said she’s inundated with messages telling her the diet is high in cholesterol and will clog her arteries

‘I get a ton of hate online. I get thousands of comments per day. Online has been the worst of all. It comes from them not understanding.

‘They think my cholesterol is going to be awful and my arteries are going to be clogged and all the common misconceptions that come with eating red meat.

‘When they do the studies on people eating red meat, they aren’t just eating red meat, they’re also eating carbs. They’re eating a potato with their steak.

‘I’ll be doing it forever as long as it continues to work for me and we don’t learn anything new. I have an open mind.

‘Maybe in the future, when I’m 75 I’ll have a bagel or something but right now it won’t do anything beneficial for me.

‘I’m having bloodwork done soon. Everyone else I know on the diet has had great results so I have high hopes and assume mine will be fine.

‘If new information comes out that what we’re doing is horrible then we’ll revaluate. A long as my bloods and mental health are fine then it’ll be forever.’
