Miranda Lambert felt honored to pay respects to the late Loretta Lynn during CMA Awards tribute

Country music legend Loretta Lynn passed away last month at the age of 90.

And just over a month later, Miranda Lambert got to help pay tribute to the Coal Miner’s Daughter at the CMA Awards at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday night.

Afterwards, Lambert confessed she was honored to pay respects to Lynn, in part, because she felt a strong personal connection to Lynn, who scored 24 number one  hit singles and 11 number one albums during career that dates back to the late 1950s.

‘I spent some time with her, and you meet a lot of people in a career, but it’s one of those memories that’s forever burned into my heart,’ Lambert told People on the CMA red carpet. 

‘She was such a lovely human being and made me feel so at home. It’s kind of intimidating to hang out with your hero all day, but she made me just feel like an old friend.’

Lambert, 39, also confessed some of her most cherished moments on stage was when she got to perform with Lynn.

In recent years Lynn suffered from a series of health concerns, including pneumonia on multiple occasions and a broken arm after a fall at home.

In May 2017, Lynn had a stroke at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, and then she fell and broke her hip jus seven months later in January 2018.

Lynn died in her sleep at her home on October 4, 2022, at the age of 90. So far, no cause of death was immediately shared with the public.

‘I’m thankful for every time she held my hand and signed my guitar and told me about a memory and gave me advice,’ she said of their time together over the years.

The Mama’s Broken Heart star said she keeps that treasured guitar at her home, confessing, ‘I play it at home. I don’t take it on the road, for sure.’

Lambert shared the stage for the Loretta Lynn medley at the CMA Awards with Carrie Underwood and Reba MxEntire, which was the first time the three country music stars sang together.

‘We’ve got a Texan and two Okies,’ Lambert, a Lindale, Texas native, said of their roots. ‘What could go wrong?’

The 14-time CMA recipient also got to perform her song Geraldene, which is off her new studio album Palomino that dropped in April and has since gone on to be nominated for Country Music Association Award for Album Of The Year.

Lambert got to share the experience of the awards show with her husband of more than three years, Brendan McLoughlin, 31.

The couple also showed off got to show off their chemistry when they hit the red carpet for a series of photos at the beginning of the evening.
