- Seasoned traveller Janelle shared an easy trick to score a row of flight seats
- She recommended booking the aisle and window seat with your partner
- This is done with the hope the middle seat will remain free
- ‘No one wants the middle seat, absolutely no one,’ Janelle said in a TikTok
An avid traveller has shared a simple trick when booking flights to score a whole row of seats to yourself.
Janelle, from the US who’s been to 21 different countries, shared a video on TikTok with her 129,000 followers.Â
The ‘hack’ involves booking the aisle and window seat when travelling in pairs to leave the middle seat available with the hope it’ll remain free. Â
‘No one wants the middle seat, absolutely no one. So why are we booking it?’ Janelle said.

Avid traveller Janelle (pictured), from the US, shared why you should book both the aisle and window seats when travelling with your partner
‘When you’re booking with your partner, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, friend, whoever, you’re going to book the aisle seat and window seat because remember no one wants the middle seat,’ Janelle said in the clip. Â
‘So there’s a chance that no one buys the middle seat or gets placed in the seat in between you – then you have a whole row to yourselves.Â
‘If there’s an aisle open over a middle seat, 100 out of 100 times the person is going to pick the row with the aisle open verses the middle,’ she said.
Janelle recommends avoid booking the middle seat and hope it will remain available, guaranteeing you a whole row to yourselves. But if someone does book the middle seat then you always have the option to ‘trade’
Many will likely avoid booking the middle seat, but if someone does Janelle said you always have the ‘option’ to ‘trade’ and sit next to your partner or friend.
‘Let’s say they do sit someone in the middle seat, you have the option to trade with them because absolutely no one wants to sit in the middle seat,’ she said.
‘So you could offer, “Hey do you want to trade for my aisle seat or my window seat?” They will say “Yes”.’Â
‘And then you can still sit next to each other.’
While the trick likely won’t work every time, it’s worth trying.Â
Janelle learnt the tip after travelling all over the world to France, Iceland, the UK, Spain, Greece, Germany, Italy, Bali, New Zealand, Amsterdam, Peru, Ireland and Australia.Â
The video was watched more than 950,000 times and many thanked Janelle for sharing the tip.Â
Earlier this year US flight attendant Tommy Cimato, from Arizona, revealed five things you should never do on a plane.Â
In a TikTok video he said passengers should never wear shorts, lean their heads against the window and should drink at least 470ml of water on every flight.Â
First up, Tommy also advised passengers to not touch the toilet flush button or lever because it’s incredible unsanitary.Â
‘It’s pretty gross, so when you flush, use a napkin or a tissue that’s in the lavatory,’ he said.Â
He then reminded viewers to drink water when travelling, particularly on long-haul flights. Â
‘Stay hydrated. You want to have about 16 ounces (470ml) for every flight that you go on,’ Tommy advised.Â
While the window seat is a popular spot chosen my most passengers, Tommy said to never ‘sleep or lean on the window’.Â
‘You don’t know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window,’ he said.
