A suspected carjacker was shot and killed by a woman with his own gun in Las Vegas after he left it on the seat while trying to steal her vehicle.
Jaylin Morrison, 18, has now been taken into custody in connection with the homicide. It’s believed he was involved in trying to steal the car of two women waiting to go to a party.
While the women were sitting in their car on November 19, another vehicle pulled up in attempt to block their path. Three men with guns then jumped out on intersection of Coleman Street and West San Miguel Avenue.Â
One of the men dragged out the woman who was sitting in the driver’s seat, before getting into the car and attempting to flee.
Jaylin Morrison, 18, was arrested on Friday after someone who knew the man who was shot dead told North Las Vegas Police that his friend had been hanging out with the teen and another person prior to homicide on November 19
Three men tried to steal the parked car of two women who were waiting to go to a party last month at the intersection of Coleman Street and West San Miguel Avenue
At the time, the suspect had also placed his gun on his lap while trying to take control of the car, but the woman said she took it from him.Â
Seconds later, she was tackled from behind by one of the men. She then turned towards her attacker and fired at least one bullet at him.
The victim said that she was also being shot at while she was on the ground. She managed to get away, and hid in a yard in the surrounding area.Â
While she was in hiding, she heard a person yelling that their friend had been shot. The woman only came out of hiding once police had arrived at the crime scene.Â
The man died from the gunshot wounds and police said the victim had begun shooting out of self-defense in their report, according to Komo News.Â
Cops came to arrest Morrison after being tipped off that the dead carjacker had been hanging out with the 18-year-old prior to being killed.Â
Detectives made Morrison a suspect after the teen’s cell phone GPS records stated that he had been at the crime scene at the time it had happened
Detectives later identified Morrison as a suspect in the carjacking after his cell phone GPS records indicated that he had been at the crime scene at the time it happened. Â
Morrison has refused to speak with detectives following his apprehension.Â
Three guns were found in the teen’s apartment at the time of his arrest, ‘with ammunition in a Glock. 45 matching ammunition in a gun found at the scene of the crime,’ according to Komo News.
Another man staying with Morrison at the time of his arrest was also taken into custody, the police report stated. That individual told law enforcement that he had been in the car with Morrison at the time of the carjacking.Â
Morrison is being held behind bars on $50,000 bail after being booked into Clark County Detention Center.Â
He faces several charges, including first-degree kidnapping, attempted robbery, burglary with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery.Â
He’s set to next appear in court on December 20.Â
