Karl Stefanovic gives Elon Musk 72 hours to come on Today show – as he jokes he’s ‘kidnapped’ the blue bird in hilarious ransom video

Karl Stefanovic has given Twitter owner Elon Musk 72 hours to appear on his breakfast program – or else.

In a tweet shared to the Today show’s official account on Monday, the host appeared in a mock ransom video in which he demanded the billionaire’s attention.

‘Elon, Karl Stefanovic, Today show Australia. You have 72 hours to come on our show, otherwise the little blue bird cops it,’ Karl said in the clip.

The little blue bird refers to the logo for the social media platform, which depicts a combination of a mountain bluebird and hummingbird.

‘Tick-tock Mr. Musk, tick-tock,’ he added from the shadows, before a blue bird plushie appeared on screen and a timer began counting down from 72 hours.

The official account added a caption to the video, which read: ‘We have bird-napped your precious Twitter bird. You have 72 hours to respond.’

Not everyone was amused by the prank, however.

‘This is the saddest thing I have seen today’ replied one viewer in the comments below the video.

‘Pretty rude to mention TikTok when you’re trying to get @elonmusk on the show Karl’ wrote another, who mixed up the term ‘tick-tock’ with the social media platform.

Others enjoyed the gag, with one person tweeting: ‘Love this. I can’t stop watching it. Tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock Mr. Musk. 70 hours to go.’
