Johnny Depp v Amber Heard trial that gripped the nation: Mega pints of wine and poop in the bed

[ad_1]

For 23 days, the world was glued to the courtroom drama between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard as their $100 million defamation trial revealed shocking and disturbing details about the showbiz couple’s marriage.

Viewers reveled at the livestream testimonies and created memes as they took sides between Depp, who sued his ex-wife for $50 million for defamation, and Heard, who filed a countersuit for $100 million.

Among the most memorable moments were images of Depp pouring himself what Heard’s attorney described as a ‘mega pint of red wine’ as he smashed up his kitchen, photos of poop on Depp’s bed that he claimed were Heard’s, Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez becoming a pop culture icon as internet users speculated about a budding romance between the two, witnesses vaping as they gave their deposition and Kate Moss delivering a bombshell testimony in under four minutes refuting one of Heard’s key claims.

Here is a breakdown of the top moments from the trial that gripped the nation as the jury reached its verdict today:

Johnny Depp smashes up his own kitchen in drunken rage after downing ‘mega pint of red wine’

The jury was shown a video Amber Heard secretly recorded of her ex-husband smashing up his own kitchen cabinets in a drunken rage.

In the video, Depp  can be heard shouting: ‘Motherf****! Motherf*****! to the sound of punching a wall as he throws a tantrum in his house.

Heard accused Depp of being drunk at the moment, with her lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, saying that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor poured himself ‘a mega pint of red wine.’

‘A mega pint,’ Depp reiterated in the courtroom as he smirked at the notion. ‘I poured myself a large glass of wine. I thought it necessary.’

The actor added: ‘Clearly I was having a bad time. I don’t know what with regard to, but being illegally recorded by your chosen other is quite fitting with the rest of the photographs and tape recordings.

‘She tried to hide it from me and laughed and smiled at the end. That was the most interesting part.’

Rottenborn’s use of the phrase ‘mega pint’ was mocked online and spurred a plethora of memes and parodies of the courtroom scene.

Who pooped on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s bed?

Perhaps one of the most shocking moments of the trial came when Depp accused Heard of defecating in their bed in 2016, as a sick prank after he arrived two hours late to her birthday party.

Pictures of the alleged incident were shared in court, reigniting Heard’s unflattering moniker, ‘Amber Turd,’ and creating a Saturday Night Live sketch about the aftermath.

Heard has repeatedly denied the accusations and claimed that the feces was the work of one of their Yorkshire terriers, Boo, who she said had ‘eaten Johnny’s weed as a puppy and had bowel control issues for life.’

First of all, I don’t think that’s funny,’ Heard said. ‘I don’t know what grown woman does… That’s disgusting.’

Depp’s chauffeur, Starling Jenkins, previously told the court that Heard told him it was a ‘horrible practical joke gone wrong.’

Heard said that while packing to go away to the Coachella music festival, Heard left Boo in the bed, which appears to have been when the feces incident occurred.

All eyes on Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez

Despite Depp and Heard’s fame, it was Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, who was dubbed the real star of the trial following her cross-examination of Heard.

Vasquez, 37, won a massive online following after she grilled Heard, picking out inconsistencies in the Aquaman actress’s allegations and claiming that Heard faked the injuries that she allegedly suffered from Depp.

The lawyer then derailed Heard’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, with a seemingly never ending number of objections to the opposing councils questions, which the judge overseeing the case agreed with.

It led to Bedehoft letting out a frustrated sigh mid-questions as she could only say, ‘I’m trying here, I’m trying,’ in the face of the constant objections.

The scene led to online ridicule of Bedehoft and the celebration of Vasquez, and even spawned T-shirts showing support for her and not just her client.

It was even speculated that Vasquez and Depp were in a relationship due to their courtroom chemistry and frequent hugs.

Objection, hearsay! Amber Heard’s lawyer ridiculed after objecting to his own question

Bedehoft wasn’t the only Heard attorney to be mocked online following a poor performance.

Adam Nadelhaft found himself at the center of ridicule after he objected to his own question, leading Judge Penney Azcarate to call him out on the error as the world watched on.

Nadelhaft asked Depp’s house manager, Ben King, about a dispute between Depp and Heard in 2015 in Australia that left Depp with a severed finger.

‘You didn’t know what could cause damage to Mr. Depp’s hand while you were there on March 8, correct?’ Nadelhaft asked.

King said a doctor informed him of the extent of the injuries to which Nadelhaft blurted, ‘Uh, objection, hearsay.’

‘Wait – you asked the question,’ Judge Penney Azcarate responded. ‘Next question.’

Depp and lawyers appeared amused by the gaff as they chuckled at Nadelhaft’s confusion.

Kate Moss’s four-minute star-turn to deny Amber Heard’s claim that Johnny Depp had pushed her down a flight of stairs in the 90s

A key argument in Heard’s cases against her ex-husband was that Depp had hit previous girlfriends, and Heard specifically cited rumors that Depp had pushed his ex, supermodel Kate Moss, down a flight of stairs.

Those claims were thrown into doubt after Moss took the stand and denied that she was ever struck by Depp.

Moss, appearing briefly via live video from Gloucestershire, England, said Depp never pushed her down stairs when they were on vacation together in Jamaica, saying she tripped and fell, and Depp tried to help her.

Moss said that throughout the course of their relationship, from 1994 to -1998 that Depp, ‘never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs.’

Heard was subsequently grilled by Depp’s legal team during a brutal cross-examination.

‘Your lies have been exposed to the world multiple times?’ said Camille Vasquez.

Heard responded: ‘I haven’t lied about anything.’

‘When you told this jury you punched Mr. Depp because you thought of Mr. Depp pushing Kate Moss down the stairs, you didn’t expect Miss Moss to testify that never happened,’ Vasquez pressed.

Heard replied, ‘Incorrect, I knew how many people will come out of the woodwork to support Johnny.’

Johnny Depp’s doorman and former best friend both vape during deposition

Another stand-out moment in the trial came in the form of bizarre video depositions from Johnny Depp’s doorman Alejandro Romero and the actor’s former best friend Bruce Witkin, both of whom vaped as they gave their testimony.

Romero’s deposition was by far one of the strangest in the trial. Filmed over cell phone from his car, the doorman could be seen blowing smoke out of his nose having apparently just taken a drag from a vape.

Losing patience with Heard’s attorneys, Romero began to drive around as he continued giving his testimony, all while Depp laughed at the bizarre scene.

After the deposition, Judge Penney Azcarate laughed and said: ‘I’ve seen a lot of things but I’ve never seen that.’

Vapes returned to the trial days later with Witkin, who was constantly taking a drag from his vape pen as he discussed his fallout with Depp and the arguments his former friend would get into with Heard.

At one point Romero could be seen blowing smoke out his nose having apparently just taken a hit from a vaping device. Losing patience he began to drive around, still talking to one of Heard's lawyers on his phone which was stuck on his dashboard

Johnny Depp struggled with sobriety as he fought ‘The Monster’ inside him

Among the disturbing details revealed in the trial was the fact that Depp, Heard, and their inner-circle all referred to the 21 Jump Street actor’s drug and alcohol addiction as ‘The Monster.’

The trial put on display Depp’s struggles with sobriety and his belief that if he could get his addiction under control, his marriage with Heard would’ve been fine.

In text messages, Heard and Depp conceded that their wild marriage failed to offer security or a ‘safe environment’ for either one of them despite rare moments that are ‘wonderful’ and ‘beautiful’.

In the exchanges, Heard questioned whether the ‘monster’ within Depp is gone.

‘What are we going to do different in the moment when you’re mad, and you go f**k it and you decide all bets are off?’ she asks Depp.

He replies: ‘Look what I did in Australia, look what I accomplished. I put the f**ker away. I told myself every f**king day, no, he’s gone. No he’s f**king, put him away.’

Depp wrote in a text message to friend and former security guard Jerry Judge in 2015, ‘All I had to do was send the monster away and lock him up.’

Amber Heard recoiled as she came face-to-face with her ex-husband

Heard appeared to recoil when she came face-to-face with Depp as she left the witness stand during the second week of the trial.

The Aquaman actress was walking back to her seat after telling the Virginia courthouse that her ex-husband had allegedly sexually assaulted her with a liquor bottle and threatened to kill her in March 2015 in Australia.

At the same time, Depp, who is partially-sighted, stood up and it seemed like their paths might cross.

Heard seemed to physically shudder and recoil, taking a step back as court officials turned towards Depp and put their hands up, directing him away.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor then turned away and appeared to shrug and smile.

Amber Heard’s sister admitted she joked that Johnny Depp should hit her sibling

Whitney Henriquez, Amber Heard’s sister, revealed she had texted Depp in 2013 that he should hit her sister when the two were having relationship problems.

‘Knowing what I know now, I regret that,’ Henriquez said during a brutal cross examination.

She claimed she served as a ‘marriage counselor’ between her sister Amber Heard and Johnny Depp during their turbulent relationship.

One time while riding in a car with Depp and Heard, Henriquez said that she looked around and was shocked to see Depp holding one of his dogs out the window.

She recalled saying: ‘”Johnny is holding the dog out the window”. I froze, I’m scared. I knew how inebriated he was. If she (the dog) twitched she was going to go out the window.

‘He brought the dog back into the car and was just laughing this really scary, loud almost like a cackle. Then he made some joke about putting her in the microwave. That was the joke, putting her in the microwave.’

During her testimony, Henriquez said that during Heard and Depp's relationship, if the actor was drinking or using drugs, there was 'almost always a fight'

Amber’s friends lived rent-free in Johnny Depp’s Los Angeles penthouses

A strange pattern emerged during the later days of the trial among many of Amber Heard’s witnesses, who were also members of Johnny Depp’s inner-circle.

They were all her friends of the couple who lived for free in Depp’s many homes and apartments.

Among the friends and former-friends in the inner circle were Raquel ‘Rocky’ Pennington, her ex-husband Joshua Drew, and iO Tillet Wright, who admitted they all lived in the couple’s penthouses for free and never actually witnessed Depp physically assault Heard.

Heard’s sister, Henriquez, was also living with the couple without paying rent.
