A ‘van life’ influencer couple have detailed their ‘near-death’ experience after taking the wrong route through the Kosciuszko National Park.

Newlyweds Tammi Keirl and Jason Weller shared their ordeal on Instagram on Wednesday, after taking the Barry Way alpine road from Victoria to Jindabyne.

The couple, who are travelling with their two young children Ruby and Savannah, crossed the dangerous pass as they towed a 21-foot caravan.

‘Can we get out? We can get out?’ a panicked Tammi is heard saying, as she revealed the the perilous view from the passenger winder, showing the narrow road.

In another video, she leaned towards the car door with her hand over her mouth, clearly worried about the possibility of an accident.

‘We took the wrong route and with no warning signs, we ended up driving hazardous roads f**king 980 metres above sea level with nowhere to turn around,’ she said.

The family was then forced to move to the cliffside as other road users needed to pass them, with Tammi visibly shaken by the experience.

Jason attempted to calm her down as the caravan inched away from the cliffside.

‘We had to move to the cliffside to let a car pass and I swear I thought we would all die,’ she said.

She then called out a lack of signage on the Victorian side of the road, noting how NSW state signs warned the road was unsuitable towing a caravan.

‘No one take this route with a caravan,’ she wrote. ‘Vic to Jindabyne by Snowy River Road through Kosciuszko National Park.’

After making it through alive, Tammi shared a photo of herself hugging one of her children, and wrote: ‘Legitimately just grateful to be alive tonight.’

The scary moment comes after the couple revealed they were quitting their family road trip due to the stress it was putting on their marriage.

In October 2022, Tammi told her 85,000 Instagram followers she, her husband and children were going to do the lap of Australia in a caravan.

But within just two months, the digital content creator changed her mind and cut the trip short, claiming it was too hard to be on the road with two young kids.

Back when she announced her plans to travel the country in a van, Tammi explained the decision was motivated by her eldest daughter Ruby’s struggles at school.

‘As cliché as it, all hardship can be a lesson,’ she wrote.

‘Witnessing Ruby’s schooling challenges this year was really tough and it really hurt us to see her struggle but now in hindsight, if she had perfectly settled into school we wouldn’t have even considered home schooling or following our dreams and allowing our children this opportunity of a lifetime!

‘This hardship was absolutely a lesson and guidance pushing us towards the path we were meant to walk with child-led learning at my their own pace all whilst traveling our beautiful country.’

However, in a post on Instagram earlier this month, the influencer admitted travelling with children was affecting her marriage, so they were returning home sooner than planned.

‘Decided today to finish our trip early and head back to the sunny coast in April,’ she wrote alongside a blurry dark selfie.

‘It’s putting too much pressure on our marriage with zero kid-free time and Sav [their youngest daughter] on the drives. I’ll cherish all of it until it ends.’
