ALISON BOSHOFF: Gillian Anderson supports on/off partner Peter Morgan at The Crown season five premiere
In a twist to rival one of his own TV dramas, The Crown writer Peter Morgan has rekindled his friendship with actress Gillian Anderson.
Anderson was a surprise arrival at the premiere of The Crown’s fifth series at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, on Wednesday — all the more so as no other former cast members were there.
I’m told: ‘She and Peter are good friends again, and she was there to support him. It’s not clear whether this extends into a romance — they are a very private pair.’
Two’s company: In a twist to rival one of his own TV dramas, The Crown writer Peter Morgan has rekindled his friendship with actress Gillian Anderson. Anderson was a surprise arrival at the premiere of The Crown’s fifth series at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, on Wednesday
Anderson played Thatcher in The Crown’s fourth series which saw the star through her time in office in the 1980s with focus on her turbulent relationship with the Royal Family.
She was dressed to impress at the event in a stylish black gown with studded embellishment.
The beauty added inches to her frame in a pair of towering silver metallic heels and added a pop of colour with a red manicure.
Morgan and Anderson were a couple from 2016 to 2020, although they never lived together.
She said: ‘My partner and I don’t live together. If we did, that would be the end of it.’
In December 2020, they parted ways and within weeks, Morgan was dating film-maker Jemima Khan, who at the time was offering advice on the scripting of scenes with Princess Diana, who was her friend.
Close circle: Last year producer Peter had broken up with his long-term girlfriend Gillian, 52, and ‘moved on’ with Jemima (pictured together in 2013)
However, by late February 2021, Morgan and Khan had split up.
Pals of Khan, formerly married to playboy cricketer and politician Imran, said Morgan had pursued her — and she had been ‘hit for six’ by the dumping.
They believed he wanted to return to Anderson. By March 2021, Anderson was thanking Morgan from the stage of the Golden Globes, although sources said they were not an item at that time.
However, it looks as if they have become close again, outside the spotlight’s glare — Anderson quietly attended the first night of Morgan’s play, Patriots, at the Almeida Theatre this summer — and some friends say the romance is back on.
Back on: But after a few weeks of dating, the writer returned to the actress (pictured in 2020)
