Full Swing: LIV golf stars fear they could be cut out of series two amid PGA Tour ultimatum claims

LIV Golf stars fear they are being cut out of future plans for Netflix’s ‘Full Swing’ documentary amid claims that the streaming giants were issued with an ultimatum to snub Saudi’s rebel tour by PGA Tour chiefs.

Many believe the show’s early popularity is a result of the conflict between PGA Tour and LIV golf players who quit the main competition to break away, which sparked chaos in the golfing world.

The Telegraph report that ‘Full Swing’ has been a major success and proved Netflix’s second-most popular show during its first week, but LIV confirmed that producers have not approached them with a view to attending upcoming events. 

Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Ian Poulter are among the golfers who switched their allegiance away from the PGA Tour and to the Saudi-funded LIV circuit, and their stories feature prominently in the eight-episode series. 

But LIV claim that Netflix have not applied to attend any of this year’s tournaments – starting at the Mayakoba resort on Friday – despite being at the opening event of the 2022 season.

The breakaway group said they would accommodate the streamer if they wanted access. 

The PGA Tour claim a second series has not yet been ‘green lit’, and Netflix added no further information when asked. 

Their cameras were following American golfer Max Homa at the Phoenix Open in Arizona earlier this month, as some players noted.

An insider claimed the PGA Tour issued the streaming platform with an ‘ultimatum’ about a potential sequel, which might limit LIV’s involvement to the majors, or see them ignored entirely.

One golfer at the Phoenix Open reportedly said: ‘It looks like it’ll just be Tour players getting the airtime now.’ 

‘Full Swing’ came to Netflix on February 15, and is meant to offer a documentary-style series following the sport of golf, in the way that ‘Drive To Survive’ showcased the world of Formula One. 

While it can be difficult to quantify the success of a streaming show, the opening seven days has shown there might be demand for more ‘Full Swing’ in future.
