Family tragedy strikes Jacinta Price as one of her closest relatives dies just days after Christmas

  • Ms Price’s cousin Regina passed away on Tuesday. She was in palliative care
  • Ms Price said Regina told her family to focus on the moments shared together
  • The senator said she had learned so much from Regina in her final days

Jacinta Price has lost a treasured family member just days after Christmas.

The Country Liberal Party senator said her cousin Regina, who isn’t much older than her, had tragically passed away on Tuesday.

The heartbreaking news comes just days after Ms Price revealed that Regina was ‘patiently waiting in her palliative care bed’ and would soon ‘peacefully slip from the world of the living’.

She said her beloved cousin had asked her family not to be sad, but instead hold each other tight as Christmas approaches.

‘Even in these last couple of days, all she wants to do is remind us of the beautiful and funny moments we’ve shared together,’ the senator wrote on Facebook on Friday.

She shared a photo of her and Regina from when they were little girls and said she felt blessed to have spent time with her cousin over the last few days.

‘There’s so much I have learned from her just in the last few days. Moments that cannot be understood any other way,’ she wrote.

‘She remembers babysitting my boys when they were little and the joy it brought her. In fact, all her stories are about the way she gave to those of us she loved and how this brought her the most joy.

‘What will be most memorable for me is that when she peacefully slips from the world of the living, her love will remain like a constant unshakable glow.’

She described Regina as the most ‘loving, giving and selfless’ person she knew.

‘To me and to our family her heart is the purest of all,’ Ms Price said.

‘She’s not given life to her own children but she took care of and brought up children in our family who before taking them into her care had not known love.’

Senator Price shared a simple message with her supporters ahead of the holidays.

‘This Christmas, I hope love can play an enduring role in your lives,’ she said.

Facebook users were quick to share heartfelt message of support to the senator.

‘Jacinta what a lovely cousin you are with such beautiful public words,’ one wrote.

‘What a remarkable woman, it obviously runs in your family. Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time,’ another said.

‘The content of your character is fully displayed in this truly beautiful message. Thoughts and prayers with Regina, you and your family,’ a third commented.

Senator Price has shared how important her family is with her followers many times, most recently posting a photo of her nephew inside her office.

The senator added the hashtags #SenatorAunty and #MakingWorkFun.

She has also posted a photo with her own Aunty and little sister.

‘When you run into your Aunty and lil Sis at Bunnings on a Sunday you gotta get a cuddle cos who knows you might get another one,’ she wrote alongside a photo of the women in a tight embrace.
