Up in arms: Fans are up in arms against the portrayal of Peter Pan in the new Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie which came out on Disney+ Friday

While at first a seemingly innocuous storyline, fans were quick to point out that his journey matches the real life experience of Bobby Driscoll, the child actor who voiced Peter Pan in the original Disney animated film from 1953.

Driscoll allegedly served as the physical inspiration for how Peter Pan ended up looking in the movie and rumors have swirled for years that he was fired from the studio possibly because of excessive acne.

One fan seemed incensed by the notion that Disney would use these rumors and facts in the Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie.

‘Bobby Driscoll was the voice of Peter pan and one of Disney poster child before they basically threw him to the street when he reached puberty,’ the user wrote. ‘He died at the age of thirty-one from drugs and misery. And in this movie, they do THAT. That’s why I’ll never watch this sh*tty movie.’

Other fans just brought up facts about Driscoll’s situation.

‘Bobby Driscoll (Peter Pan’s original voice actor) was one of the first few actors to join Disney’s crew at the age of 5,’ another fan wrote. ‘He got good work through them up to Peter Pan, then had his contract terminated three years early due to excessive acne making his makeup too difficult.’

This is the second project of Mulaney’s in recent days that has received a bit of backlash from fans.

He was criticized after Dave Chappelle opened for him in Ohio Friday and told jokes that some audience members found to be transphobic and homophobic.

One fan wrote sarcastically, ‘my favorite part of tonight was when dave chappelle ambushed us at the john mulaney show, told a bunch of transphobic jokes, a massive stadium of people laughed, and then john mulaney hugged him at the end.’

Mulaney has not responded to any of the accusations as of yet.
