Cate Blanchett revealed to guests attending the 34th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival on Thursday that Jamie Lee Curtis had stepped out in her ‘bras and knickers’ before carpooling to the event causing the two stars to ‘nearly’ miss the ceremony.
The Academy Award-winning actress, 53, told the audience the hilarious story during her acceptance speech upon receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award, presented to her by 64-year-old Curtis.Â
The talented star, who recently stopped by the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Wednesday, additionally stepped onto the star-studded stage to present an award to Viola Davis. Â

After the Halloween actress announced the recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Award in the Actress category, Cate expressed her gratitude, along with recalling why she had almost not attended the festival.Â
The Carol actress stated that prior to heading to the award ceremony, both she and Jamie, ‘had this lengthy conversation,’ due to the True Lies star being ‘appalled by’ Cate’s packing, according to Variety.Â
She continued that it had been, ‘A discussion about whether I should get into pajamas before driving back tonight. Meanwhile, she’s telling me this about what I should wear, and she comes out in her bra and knickers.’Â
‘This is why we nearly missed tonight’s event,’ the Lord Of The Rings alum jokingly concluded.Â
The two friends also tried to decide who was best at driving, with Cate confidently announcing, ‘I’m the better driver…It’s a fact.’Â

Cate was awarded the Desert Palm Achievement Award due to her performance in the 2022 drama, Tár.Â
The premise of the critically acclaimed feature follows, ‘Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and the very first female director of a major German orchestra,’ according to an IMDB synopsis. Â
In a press release, the festival’s chairman, Harold Matzner, expressed, ‘Cate Blanchett is truly one of the best actresses of this generation, whose performances are always extraordinary no matter the role.’
He further explained that, ‘In her latest film, Tár, Cate perfectly embodies Lydia Tár as an orchestra conductor at the height of her career whose life begins to unravel,’ adding that, ‘There is no one better suited for this role.’Â
The Golden Globe winner was the recipient of the honor once before in 2016 due to her performance in Carol and also the film, Truth. Â

While announcing the recipient, the actress mentioned how she wanted the opportunity to be cast alongside Davis in the near future.Â
‘There’s some actors that you aspire to be, there’s some actors that you aspire to know, and some that you want to work with and learn from hoping that some of the magic wisdom and stardust will rub off on you,’ the Australian-born star stated, according to The Hollywood Reporter.Â
‘Viola Davis is all three,’ Cate expressed, then added a touch of humor to the short speech. ‘Make no mistake, this is actually not a speech, it’s kind of an audition…’Â
‘Because I’m auditioning tonight for the role of co-star or supporting actress or personal assistant to Ms. Davis in any project she has.’Â

The director of the upcoming movie is filmmaker Eli Roth, who is known for directing other projects such as Cabin Fever and Hostel.Â
Other stars that were cast in the film, which is currently in post-production, include Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Bobby Lee, and Gina Gershon. A set release date has yet to be revealed to anticipated fans.Â
