President Joe Biden‘s new press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had a fashion faux pas – as she was pictured posing at the White House in a dress designed by Ivanka Trump.

The internet is reeling after Jean-Pierre, 47 – who became the White House press secretary on May 13 following the departure of Jen Psaki – was spotting rocking one of Ivanka’s gowns.

White House press assistant Megha Bhattacharya shared a snap of Jean-Pierre in the dress to Twitter on Sunday, while celebrating her new position, writing, ‘Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has a nice ring to it.’

However, when someone pointed out that Jean-Pierre was donning an Ivanka Trump design, many social media users were entertained by it.

President Joe Biden’s new press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has already made something of a fashion faux pas, days into the job, after being pictured wearing a dress designed by former President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka (seen left with press assistant Megha Bhattacharya)

The design from Ivanka's now defunct fashion brand, which was called the Embellished Sheath Dress, originally sold for $65. It is being resold on Poshmark for $85

They branded the style blunder ‘hysterical’ and ‘priceless,’ calling it ‘ironic’ that she wore a gown designed by the former president’s daughter.

Former President Donald Trump famously campaigned against Biden in the 2020 presidential campaign, but ultimately lost in the end.

But despite her boss and the former president’s rocky past, it appears that Jean-Pierre is a fan of his daughter’s fashion sense.

‘Love the Press Secretary’s dress. I too own this Ivanka Trump dress and I’m even wearing it in my profile pic,’ wrote one Twitter user.

‘Styled by Ivanka,’ replied another, alongside a laughing emoji.

‘The irony! So cute though,’ said someone else.

A different person added, ‘They love her style, they just don’t admit it.’

Ivanka’s brother, Donald Trump Jr., even noticed it – and he reposted the original tweet to his own account and tagged Ivanka.

‘Flagging for you @IvankaTrump,’ he wrote.

The number, entitled Embellished Sheath Dress, is currently out of stock but originally sold for $65. It is being resold on Poshmark for $85.

‘Own the room in a sleek, sophisticated sheath dress from Ivanka Trump, exquisitely detailed with tiny embellishments and a modern slit at front,’ a description of the dress reads.

Made from 94 per cent polyester and six per cent spandex, the knee-length, sleeveless dress features a mock neckline and two front slits. It comes in various colors, but Jean-Pierre opted for blush ballet pink.

Ivanka launched her own clothing line in 2011, which focused on women’s office attire at an affordable price point.

It was a huge success, and in 2013, the New York Times reported that her brand had sold around $75 million worth of products.

However, she departed the company in January 2017 – soon after her father was elected president – and the clothing line was officially shut done one year later.

Jean-Pierre – who was born on the French island Martinique from Haitian parents but moved to New York City when she was five – made history when she became the first black person and first openly LGBTQ person to become Press Secretary.

She was previously a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, as well as a lecturer at Columbia University and a senior advisor and spokeswoman for MoveOn.org.

She served as the regional political director for the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Obama administration’s first term.

During Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2020 campaign, she was hired as the chief of staff before becoming the White House Principle Deputy Press Secretary in 2021. Then, in May, she was appointed as White House Press Secretary.

‘I just want to say a few words about how honored I am to be here with all of you today,’ Jean-Pierre said at the top of her first briefing after landing the new position last week.

‘I am obviously acutely aware that my presence at this podium represents a few firsts.

‘I am a black gay immigrant woman, the first of all three of those to hold this position.

‘I would not be here today if it were not for generations of barrier-breaking people before me. I stand on their shoulders.’
