Congrats! BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood announced that she is engaged live on air on Monday morning’s show as she flashed her bling new engagement ring
During the morning show, Carol appeared live from Chelsea Flower Show – but as soon as the camera panned to her, Sally and Jon were more keen to hear about her good news than the show.
Noticing the glimmering ring on her left hand, Sally teased: ‘I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning, I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand,’ as Jon laughed beside her.
Blushing, the weathercaster let out a giggle and said: ‘Oh that one? Thanks, yeah it is rather nice, I got engaged’
Pushing Carol to spill some details, Sally continued: ‘Can we confirm to the nation what’s happened?’

Work can wait! During the morning show, Carol appeared live from Chelsea Flower Show – but as soon as the camera panned to her, Sally and Jon were more keen to hear about her good news than the show
‘I think you just have Sal! Yes I got engaged, we got engaged when we were on holiday so it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled,’ Carol replied.
A delighted Jon said that he and everyone in the studio were ‘chuffed’ for Carol, as Sally began a round of applause for her colleague.Â
Despite keeping the relationship with her mystery fiance fairly under wraps in public, Carol has previously gushed that her beau was the ‘best thing that’s ever happened to me’.
Chatting with Prima Magazine in 2021, the TV star said: ‘He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it’s 2.45am and he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work.Â
‘That, to me, is worth a million red roses,’ she explained.
Carol was previously married to cricket player Jimmy Kirkwood, but the pair split in 2008 after 18 years of marriage.
