Butler revealed that he first met Lisa Marie, ‘when we screened the film at Graceland, and I’ve never had an experience where I met somebody and felt an immediate depth of relationship to them.’

‘She was a person who didn’t really have anything to prove and wouldn’t open up to everyone, and she just opened up to me,’ he added.

‘We got so close so fast, so yeah, it’s just devastating. It’s weird in moments like this because it’s so bittersweet,’ he added.

‘I get goosebumps. That was after we screened the film and his bedroom is a place most people never get to see, and she said, “I wanna show you something,”‘ Butler said.

‘She took me up there and… moments like that, up there, he’s not Elvis, he’s just dad. Moments like that, truly I’ll treasure that forever,’ Butler said.

After Lisa-Marie’s death on January 12, Butler released a heartfelt statement about her passing.

‘My heart is completely shattered for Riley, Finley, Harper and Priscilla at the tragic and unexpected loss of Lisa Marie,’ Butler said.

‘I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered,’ he concluded.

Butler will go up against Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Bill Nighy (Living) on Oscar Sunday.
