Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania secured the number one spot in the weekend box office for the second week in a row, despite having a whopping drop in sales, raking in only $32.2 million after successfully opening with $106 million last week. 

The negative 69 perct drop for the Marvel film is the largest in MCU history, with other movies including Thor: Love and Thunder (-67 percent) and Black Widow (-67.8 percent) trailing close behind, reported Variety. 

With a $200 million budget, the action movie, which is based on the popular comic books, Quantumania overall has raked in $364 million globally, with $167 million being domestic, and $194 million internationally, according to the outlet. 

One source opened up to Deadline and brushed off the significant drop in sales for the MCU film, which has a cast featuring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Jonathan Majors, Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas.

The film is the sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man And The Wasp (2018), and is also the 31st move in total for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

Close behind in second place in the weekend box office at $23 million is Universal’s horror-comedy Cocaine Bear, which raked in better than expected sales. 

The cast includes Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Christian Convery. The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks stepped behind the camera to both direct and produce the humorous feature which is based on a true story. 

According to an IMDB synopsis, the premise follows ‘An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converge on a Georgia forest where a huge black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.’ 

With international sales of $5.3 million, Cocaine Bear garnered a total of $28.4 million globally for its opening weekend, reported Deadline, which was far better than its projected $15 to $17 million. 

Jim Orr, the chief of Universal Domestic Distribution, told the publication, ‘This is a tremendous debut for Cocaine Bear, an outrageous comedy so well-crafted by director Elizabeth Banks.’ 

He continued, ‘Audiences across North America were eager to see this original, hysterical film that continues what is shaping up to be a very good year at the domestic box office.’ 

Due to the positive response to the film, writer Jimmy Warden, opened up to Variety about a possible sequel to Cocaine Bear for fans. ‘For the sequels, I definitely have ideas for that.’ 

‘The bear’s not the bad guy in this movie. What happened is a product of circumstance and everybody else’s poor decisions.’

He added, ‘I think that is a story that we can continue to tell over and over again. I’d be excited to tell it because there are some really good ideas that we have for the subsequent movies.’  

Lionsgate’s Jesus Revolution jumped to third place in weekend box office sales at $15.5 million, also exceeding the expected outcome of only $6-$7 million, according to Deadline.
