American broadcaster Cooper Lawrence has savaged Amber Heard‘s defiant new interview with Today’s Savannah Guthrie, less than two weeks after the actress was found to have defamed her ex-husband Johnny Depp by accusing him of abuse.
During her sit-down interview, Heard, 36, called the jury’s verdict ‘unfair’ and doubled down on her allegations that Depp, 58, was physically violent towards her during their tumultuous marriage.
Ms Lawrence weighed in on the interview on Australian breakfast TV show Sunrise on Wednesday, telling co-hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch that Heard’s statements sounded ‘really weird’ and ‘rehearsed’.

‘I think [Heard is] on the “you need to listen to me tour”. Yet she has these awkward moments that she had during the trial where you’re kind of like, “Wait, are you lying again?”‘ Ms Lawrence said.
‘It’s like she can’t get her own story straight that she memorised for this interview, and she’s not even under oath,’ she added.
Ms Lawrence was particularly baffled by a moment in the interview when Guthrie highlighted how Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez described Heard’s testimony as ‘the performance of a lifetime’.

‘Says the lawyer for the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers? I’m the performer?’ Heard shot back, referring to Depp’s 1990 film Edward Scissorhands.
Ms Lawrence remarked: ‘I mean the thing is, we know that Johnny Depp doesn’t have fingers that are scissors. We also don’t think that he was once a real pirate.
‘The whole thing is really odd and really weird, and I’m trying to figure out what her intention was here.’
During her sit-down with Guthrie, Heard hit out at the ‘hate and vitriol’ she faced throughout the trial and in the wake of the jury’s verdict, while blasting the ‘unfair’ decision made against her.
‘It’s like she can’t get her own story straight that she memorised for this interview, and she’s not even under oath,’ Ms Lawrence said of Heard’s sit-down with the U.S. Today show

‘Even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation,’ she said. ‘You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.’
Heard also accused Depp’s lawyers, Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew, of trying to ‘distract the jury from the real issues’ during the trial, conceding that they had ‘done a better job of that’ than her own legal team.
She also suggested that the trial had called into question her First Amendment right to free speech, claiming that she had ‘spoken her truth and spoken it to power’ only to have ended up ‘paying the price’ for that.

Earlier this month, a jury ruled that Heard defamed her Pirates Of The Caribbean star ex-husband by publishing a piece about being a sexual assault survivor in the Washington Post.
Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, although the second payment was reduced to $350,000 per Virginia law by the judge.
Heard was awarded a relatively paltry $2 million in compensatory damages, meaning that Depp walked away from the case with Heard owing him $8.35 million.
After the trial concluded on June 1, Heard’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft told the Today show that the star ‘absolutely’ couldn’t pay Depp the full amount of money.
