The football star also took a stand at the World Cup in Qatar when she wore a ‘OneLove’ rainbow armband during the broadcaster’s pre-match coverage of England’s game against Iran.
It came just hours after players including England captain Harry Kane were forced to back down from wearing the armband which was intended as a protest against all forms of discrimination at the tournament in Qatar.
Fifa told players they would face sporting sanctions and team captains could even be booked or forced to leave the pitch if they wore the OneLove armband, resulting in Kane wearing the Fifa-approved armband for the match during England’s opener.
The person of the year has been named as Alice Oseman, an author, screenwriter and creator of Netflix series Heartstopper.
Also a winner and in attendance on Friday was Ben Aldridge, who bagged a gong for the Film, TV and Music category.

Writing in her autobiography, How (Not) To Be Strong, she recalled: ‘This very cute, very famous young guy really went out of his way to woo me.
‘I won’t reveal his name but he was in a boy band. A big one. And he was very sweetly and doggedly pursuing me.’
However, Alex was worried that their romance would have a negative impact on her blossoming TV career.
