Confused commuters were baffled about the purpose of a device that appeared on the ceiling of buses.

Passengers recently began to notice the mystery contraptions while catching public transport.

One perplexed commuter uploaded a photograph to social media and asked whether other commuters recognised the device.

Commuters have been left stumped after noticing a strange device installed on the ceiling of buses

The photograph shows a square block with a green LED light attached to the ceiling. 

Australians were quick to share their guesses with some offering more ludicrous responses.

‘It’s a public Bluetooth speaker so you can share your sick Aussie rap tracks with the whole bus,’ one person wrote.

Another added: ‘Transformer. Robot in disguise.’

‘It’s a memory wiping device like is used in the tower of London to keep the alien technology hidden in the black archive secret,’ someone else wrote. 

‘In this case it is meant to make passengers forget any grievances they have with public transport, but it hasn’t been switch on yet… at least that is what I remember.’

There were many more jokes mocking conspiracy theorists worried about 5G transmitters.

‘I’d hazard a guess that its some sort of air filter/cleaner/scrubber as a response to covid,’ one wrote.

The device is an Aura Air that is designed to eliminate particles of bad bacteria from the air and reduce the risk of commuters spreading airborne germs.
