A West Virginia businessman’s presidential bid took a dramatic turn recently when his pregnant wife collapsed during his official announcement.

Rollan Roberts II was several minutes into his speech his White House goal when his wife, Rebecca Lea Roberts, began to stumble before fully falling and taking down the American flag right next to her.

Rebecca, who is five months pregnant with the couple’s first child, laid on the ground for several seconds before Roberts moved to help her after several aids stepped in.

The Republican who has never been elected to public office has since been mocked mercilessly on social media for his hesitation to help her.

To make matters worse, Rollan faced backlash for his campaign’s decision to edit out the faint from the video which was shared to his Facebook account.

‘You probably missed this but another Republican announced he was running for President while his pregnant wife literally passed out in the background,’ said one verified Twitter user who shared the full video of the incident.

The faint came seven minutes or so into the announcement from the Republican businessman who was describing the reasons constituents should vote for him.

In the video, Rebecca can be seen beginning to stumble to the side.

At one point, the businessman’s wife knocks directly into an American flag before her knees give out and she hits the floor of the West Virginia State Capitol.

As Rebecca goes down, taking the American flag with her, an aide standing next to her attempts to hold her up and then lift the flag off of her.

Roberts stands at the podium for several seconds as others on both sides of him rush to her side to make sure she is okay and help her.

Once the situation had been sorted, Roberts gave a shoutout to those who stepped in to help.

‘Can we give a hand to the medical team for their assistance? She (Rebecca) is five months pregnant,’ Mr Roberts said.

‘Her blood pressure is fine, so we thank the Lord,’ he continued.

It was a rough start for the ‘American businessman’ who then faced backlash for editing the whole ordeal out of the video he shared on his campaign’s Facebook page.

NICE HOW AT THE 7:30 MARK YOU EDITED OUT THE PART WHERE YOUR WIFE FAINTED IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR SPEECH, AND YOU JUST STOOD THERE, WONDERING WHETHER OR NOT TO KEEP TALKING, WHILE YOUR AIDS TRIED TO HELP HER. OH WELL, AT LEAST YOU WERE THE **FIFTH**PERSON TO COME TO HER SIDE, EH?’ one Facebook commenter responded to the video.

That was just one response of many criticizing and mocking the candidate.

‘He’s going to need to work on those Dad reflexes!’ said one Twitter user.

This is not Roberts’ first child, however, according to his campaign website. He has two daughters from a previous marriage.

‘Not sure I recall a time when a candidate announced their intention to run for office and have that campaign end at the exact same moment,’ wrote another person.

‘I thought for a moment he wasn’t going to leave the podium,’ said one person.

‘Wow! I counted a full 5-seconds before he made a move toward her. I hope she’s okay,’ said another.

‘He stood there and looked at her as if she was interrupting him,’ wrote another.
