Katherine Jenkins performs at the Pope’s Christmas concert in Rome after losing her luggage

Katherine Jenkins vowed ‘the show must go on’ after her luggage was lost on her British Airways flight when heading to Rome to perform for the Pope.

The 42-year-old mezzo-soprano sang at the Vatican’s annual Concerto di Natale as part of Pope Francis‘ Christmas celebrations last night at the Auditorium Conciliazione.

But she was left fuming after British Airways lost her bags – including her dresses – on her trip to Rome and she feared she may have to cancel the performance.

However, hours before the planned performance she posted a video of herself rehearsing on Instagram wearing a black coat.

She captioned the post: ‘The show must go on,’ with a laughing emoji. Katherine initially said she would be unable to do so if her luggage was not found.

Katherine went on to share more snaps to her Instagram Stories giving an inside glimpse at her special performance and revealed her bags arrived in the nick of time.

Pointing out her shoes, Katherine wore trainers – and added a face palm emoji to express her annoyance.

In another post, she gave fans an update: ‘With just 20 mins to go before I go on stage for the performance, the bags have arrived. Nearly 2 days late.’

She also shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from British Airways’ customer service line, asking for her feedback on her experience with the airline.

Katherine has already had a busy Christmas concert schedule and last week performed with Sir Cliff Richard and Lord of the Rings and Marvel star, Andy Serkis, at the Royal Albert Hall’s Christmas event – her 50th appearance at the venue. 

Katherine was annoyed because it isn’t the first time her bags have vanished on the trip from London with BA.

She wrote: ‘OMG! @British-Airways have lost my bags AGAIN! I’m supposed to be singing tomorrow for the Pope’s Christmas concert in Rome. I feel so let down as I will not be able to perform. Please sort this out.’

British Airways responded on Twitter to the call in a bid to find her missing frocks.

A British Airways spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We’re doing everything we can to reunite our customer with their delayed baggage as soon as possible. 

‘We apologise for the inconvenience caused.’

The mezzo-soprano, who is married to artist and director Andrew Levitas, 45, has been busy of late, recently marking her 50th performance with a show at Royal Albert Hall.

She has performed for the Pope in the past and also has a connection with the Royal Family.

In September, she was selected to record the first version of the new national anthem, God Save the King.

The Welsh opera singer, 42, told Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shepherd she had actually been recording something for the Queen after receiving the news Her Majesty had died at the age of 96.

‘At first we stopped what we were doing. We had a moment of silence,’ she said.

From a small church in a rural part of Sussex, Katherine was called by BBC Radio 4 asking her to close the World at One programme with God Save the King.

Katherine, who was one of the Queen’s favourite singers and who has performed for the Royal Family several times, said she had to ‘really think’ about the lyrics, which have changed to reflect King Charles III.
