A Woolworths shopper has been lampooned for going barefoot while on a grocery run – but others have wondered what all the fuss is about given shopping shoeless is a long-standing Australian tradition. 

The man’s image was posted to social media on Tuesday after he was snapped bending down at a fresh produce aisle while wearing no shoes.

Wearing just a black singlet and green shorts, the customers was seen picking out some green vegetables.

The image was posted to social media by a critic who griped abut the shoeless customer and took a shot at the supermarket giant for allowing him to go barefoot.

Tourists visiting Australia are frequently baffled by locals walking through shops barefoot. However, in coastal areas of the country, it’s quite normal.   

‘Is there a shoe shortage in Australia? How is this acceptable on a worksite Woolworths?’ the online caption read. 

But the complainant received some flak in return as social media lit up defending the unwitting shopper. 

‘How is it a ‘worksite’? He’s shopping not bricklaying you melt,’ one commenter said.

‘How does this impact you? He isn’t wiping his feet on the fresh produce,’ another shot back.

‘What’d the bloke say when you asked him about his lack of footwear?’ another said in another poke at the critic.
