Stunning in scarlet! Queen Margrethe II of Denmark beams as she arrives at the Danish Church of St Katharine’s in Camden for a service in honour of her Golden Jubilee
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark commanded attention in a vibrant outfit when stepping out in North London on Sunday morning.
The beaming 82-year-old royal attended a celebration service in honour of her Golden Jubilee at the Danish Church of St Katharine’s in Camden.Â
Looking typically colourful, the Danish Queen donned a scarlet single-breasted jacket with matching red and burgundy boater hat. She also wore her Order of the Garter, which she received during her UK state visit in 1979, being invested in 1980.
The Garter is an order of chivalry founded by Edward III of England in 1348. It is the most senior order of knighthood in the British honours system, outranked in precedence only by the Victoria Cross and the George Cross.Â

Queen Margrethe is now the longest-reigning living European monarch following the death of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this year.Â
The Danish monarch has been celebrating her jubilee for the previous few months and last week was pictured with her family in Copenhagen.Â

It was the first time since September that she had been seen out in public with her son Prince Joachim.Â
Joachim, 53, who is Margrethe’s youngest son, was joined at Copenhagen City Hall by his second wife Princess Marie, 46, as well as his sister-in-law Crown Princess Mary, 50, and his older brother Crown Prince Frederik, 54.
It marked the first time the Danish Queen her sons and their wives have all been seen at the same occasion after Joachim criticised his mother for stripping his four children of their royal titles.
In September, Margrethe ruffled feathers by announcing Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10, would no longer be known as princes or princess nor as His or Her Royal Highnesses from 1 January 2023.Â

Instead, they will be Counts and Countess and be referred to as Their Excellencies.
Following her announcement, Joachim spoke to Danish publication Ekstra Bladet outside the Danish Embassy in Paris, where he lives with his French-born wife Princess Marie and his two youngest children, and said his four children had been ‘hurt’ by their grandmother’s decision.
But during the outing, the Danish Royal Family appeared to put the row over titles behind them as they posed for pictures prior to the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Copenhagen.
