Judge UNSEALS probable cause affidavit in Delphi Bridge murders case

One of the Delphi Bridge murder victims shouted ‘gun,’ as she spotted their killer advancing towards them – while an unspent round found close to the girls’ bodies was ‘cycled’ through the suspect’s gun, a probable cause affidavit claims.

The newly-unsealed affidavit alleges that Libby German, 14 and her friend Abigail Williams, 13, were murdered by Richard Allen, 50, near the Monon Bridge High Trail while he was kidnapping them on February 13, 2017.

It shares the final known words spoken by one of the girls – ‘Gun,’ before their killer ordered them ‘Guys, down the hill.’ Cops have yet to say whether Abigail or Libby made that outburst. 

The two girls were found dead near a creek the next day, with an unspent .40 caliber round found next to their bodies. 

A break through in the case finally came last month when cops were able to track down the pistol that likely fired the bullet to Allen’s home nearby. They say the bullet must have ‘cycled through’ his gun. 

Allen is now charged with felony murder in their deaths, with prosecutors claiming he had killed the two teens while trying to kidnap them.

He has not, however, been charged with kidnapping.

Chilling eyewitness interviews that comprise part of the probable cause affidavit suggest Allen was on the bridge waiting for his victims. 

An eyewitness interviewed, who was on the bridge that day, recalled seeing the man believed to be Allen first while walking back along the same trail. They said he was  ‘kind of creepy’ and appeared ‘muddy and bloody’ at the time. 

He was ahead of German and Williams, that witness suggested, meaning he may have lain in wait for his victims. 

Meanwhile, Allen admitted to cops being in the area that day during an interview carried out in 2017, although he has long denied the murders. 

He said at the time that he decided to walk along the new Freedom Bridge, where he saw three females — saying one of them was taller and had brown or black hair.

Allen was then interviewed again on October 13, 2022, when he told investigators he had just gone on the bridge to watch fish — and once again insisted he did not interact with the teens.

Authorities now say he may not have acted alone.

The revelations come as Allen petitions a judge to move his trial at least 150 miles away from Carroll County, citing over five years of ‘intense publicity’ in the case that gripped the nation
