Meghan Markle has revealed she was a ‘huge fan’ of the Real Housewives TV series and was starstruck when she twice met its creator Andy Cohen, who had no idea until today.
The embarrassing moment came as today the former Suits star released the final episode of her Archetypes podcast featuring male guests for the first time after Prince Harry ‘suggested’ it.
The Duchess of Sussex, 41, who lives in Montecito, California, talked of her love for the Real Houswives franchise with its executive producer Andy Cohen but said she stopped when her own private life became more ‘dramatic’ – a nod to meeting Harry.
And in an awkward start to the episode, called ‘Man-ifesting a Cultural Shift’, Meghan says she has met Mr Cohen on several occasions when she was on Suits. But it became clear he had forgotten when he said ‘nice to meet you’ at the beginning of the interview.
She said: ‘I met you before. You’ll never remember it’. He replied: ‘You’re joking’, to which Meghan laughed and said: ‘Would I joke about that? This is great’. She went on: ‘I met you twice. The first one is Suits wasn’t even on, yet. And then when we had maybe season two or three, we were in New York’.
Duchess of Sussex’s newest Archetypes episode was released today, starring host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah, movie director Judd Apatow and US broadcaster Andy Cohen, who had forgotten meeting her twice
Revealing that she wanted to be on his late night TV show, Watch What Happens Live, she said: ‘I was so eager to be on your show because I was such a Housewives fan at the time and I just couldn’t get booked Andy’. Mr Cohen squealed uncomfortably as he regaled the stories – and she said: ‘It’s not bad, it’s not bad. Don’t sweat’.
Judd Apatow spoke about how women have shaped his films
After she admitted being a long-time fan of the show, Andy Cohen, one of three male guests on this week’s episode of Archetype, told Meghan: ‘I guess the million dollar question is, do you still watch the Housewives? This is what we’ve been dying to know.
Meghan replied: ‘Well, I will tell you the truth. I stopped watching the Housewives when my life had its own level of drama.
‘That I stopped…’ Andy finished her sentence for her, saying: ‘craving other people’s.’
Meghan agreed with his interpretation, and said: ‘ I get why it was such a huge huge part of pop culture and when it began because you began with Orange County and I’m from California, at least,’ she added.
‘It felt remotely like a world that I knew but still felt so foreign,’ she added.
Cohen went on to mention rumours that were swirling around a possible appearance from Meghan on the Beverly Hills series of the franchise after she and The Duke of Sussex stepped down as senior royals and moved to the US.
She laughed them off, saying she wasn’t aware of any rumours and that she wouldn’t appear in any TV reality TV show.
Trevor Noah spoke to Meghan around the time he suggested ‘the entire UK is racist’ as he sought to clarify remarks he made on The Daily Show following the appointment of Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister
At the start of the show Meghan admitted that her British husband said she should speak to men on the show, currently 29 in the Spotify charts, to ‘shift the gender debate’.
The Duchess of Sussex spoke to host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah, movie director Judd Apatow and Mr Cohen for their take on ‘the labels and tropes that try to hold women back’.
Her Spotify podcast deal is said to be worth $18million and episode 12 of her show is finally completed two years after the contract was signed with the streaming giant.
Meghan revealed that the first male guests on Archetypes came after Prince Harry – the only man to appear on an episode so far – suggested she should.
She said: ‘Now, if you’ve been listening to the past eleven episodes, you may have noticed that you haven’t heard many men’s voices, in fact, until now outside of a quick pop, in, from my husband, in the first episode, this show has featured exclusively women’s voices.
‘It was important to us that women have a space to share their authentic and complicated complex and dynamic experiences to be heard. And to be understood.
‘But through that process it also occurred to me, and truth be told at the suggestion of my husband, that if we really want to shift how we think about gender and the limiting labels that we separate people into, then we have to broaden the conversation.
‘And we have to actively include men in that conversation and certainly in that effort. So today we are doing just that we’re opening it all up breaking out of the box’.
Talk TV host Piers Morgan criticised The Daily Show and other US media outlets for ‘falsely portraying Britain as a racist country’. Responding to Morgan on Twitter, Noah said: ‘C’mon Piers you’re smarter than that. ‘I wasn’t saying ”The entire UK is racist”, I was responding to the racists who don’t want Rishi as PM because of his race… That’s why I said ”Some people”.’
Trevor Noah opened up about the shooting of his South African mother Patricia Noah at the hands of his stepfather, mechanic Abel Shingange, saying that ‘all [he] felt was rage’ in the wake of the horrifying incident.
He said that he and his mother relied on each other and he was suddenly man of the house.
He said: ‘I remember my mom saying to me when I was very young, she said, remember you can be the head of your household as a man without owning a cent more than your woman said you can earn nothing.
‘She said being a man has nothing to do with with how you wield your power in the household. It’s just how you fulfill your role’.
Last month Noah was involved in a row with the Prime Minister after he called the UK a racist country, falsely claiming there was outcry that ‘Indians are going to take over’ after Rishi Sunak became PM.
But in a video posted on Twitter from The Daily Show, Noah said: ‘Watching the story of Rishi Sunak becoming England’s first Prime Minister of colour, of Indian descent, of all these things and then seeing the backlash is one of the more telling things about how people view the role that they or their people have played in history.
‘And what I mean by that is this, you hear a lot of the people saying “Oh, they’re taking over, now the Indians are going to take over Great Britain and what’s next?”
‘And I always find myself going: “So what? What are you afraid of?”’ He suggested that fear was based on the previously oppressed taking revenge against their tormentors upon getting into power.
Tom Holland, the historian, author and podcaster, said: ‘As ever, the inability of American liberals to understand the world beyond the US in anything but American terms is a thing of wonder.
‘(The likelihood of the right-wing party in the US choosing a Hindu as its leader is, I would agree, effectively zero.)’ Mr Sunak’s grandparents were from Punjab state before the Indian subcontinent was divided into India and Pakistan in 1947 after British colonial rule ended.
Noah, 38, grew up in a mixed race family during apartheid, and is one of the US’s best-known satirists. His family moved to east Africa and then settled in the UK in the 1960s.
Meghan Markle admits she used to love watching Real Housewives but stopped when ‘my life had its own level of drama’
Meghan Markle has admitted she is a fan of the Real Housewives franchise but stopped craving ‘other people’s drama’ when her own life became turbulent.
The Duchess of Sussex, 41, who lives in Montecito, California, talked of her love for the show with presenter Andy Cohen on her podcast Archetypes.
She said she used to love the Real Housewives of Orange County, because the women on the show felt close to her life as a Californian native, but also ‘foreign’.
Cohen joked about rumours that claimed Meghan would appear on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills after she and Prince Harry moved to the US in 2020 following Megxit and the mother-of-two insisted she had no plans to appear in any reality TV show.

However, Meghan will soon be appearing in a fly-on-the-wall series when Netflix released its £88million production following the Duchess and Prince Harry next week on 8th December.
After she admitted being a long-time fan of the show, Andy Cohen, one of three male guests on this week’s episode of Archetype, told Meghan: ‘I guess the million dollar question is, do you still watch the housewives? This is what we’ve been dying to know.
