EXCLUSIVE – FBI called to Kari Lake’s campaign office after staff received suspicious white powder in two envelopes with ‘threatening’ messages for Republican Arizona Governor candidate
- FBI and police were at the Lake offices from 10pm Saturday to 5am on Sunday
- A staffer received two envelopes containing a suspicious white powderÂ
- There were also threatening messages the campaign considers an ‘attack’
- A hazmat team and bomb squad also responded to the scene in Phoenix Â
- Lake is in a tight race in Arizona with her Democratic opponent Katie HobbsÂ
- Last week Hobbs suggested Lake was partly to blame for a break-in at her campaign headquarters Â
The FBI swooped on Republican Arizona Governor candidate Kari Lake’s campaign offices on Saturday night after staff received suspicious white power, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Law enforcement was at the offices in Phoenix from 10pm to 5am after Lake’s team was sent two envelopes with the substance and abusive messages.
Her campaign believes this was a ‘terroristic attack, trying to intimidate Kari and the campaign staff’.Â
A source familiar with the campaign told DailyMail.com: ‘Yesterday, one of Kari’s staffers opened up an envelope that had a suspicious white powder in it and had a letter in there with a bunch of vulgarities and ranting and raving about Kari.Â
‘The employee then noticed second package that was exactly like the first one she had opened and she reported it.’

A hazmat team and the bomb squad also responded and the FBI took then substance away for analysis.
In a statement to DailyMail.com, the Phoenix Police Department confirmed the suspicious packages and said they were investigating.Â
Sergeant Phil Krynsky said: ‘Officers responded to a found property call at an office building near 40th Street and Camelback Road. When officers arrived they learned there were suspicious items located inside the mail. Additional resources responded to collect the items and secure the area.Â
‘There have been no reports of injury and the investigation remains active’.
Lake is in a tight race with her Democratic opponent Katie Hobbs and the campaign has become fierce in recent weeks with personal attacks from both sides.Â
Last Tuesday, police responded to Hobbs’ campaign headquarters in Phoenix to reports of a break-in.
Hobbs initially suggested that Lake’s team and her rhetoric may have been behind it.
Lake pegged it as a ‘Jussie Smollett Part Two,’ suggesting that Hobbs was inflating or faking the entire incident to distract from the razor-thin polling margins.
But it was later revealed that the suspect was an illegal immigrant from Portugal, 36-year-old Daniel Mota Dos.
He overstayed his student visa, according to Customs and Border Protection.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) public affairs officer Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe, Mota is ‘currently at-large for administrative immigration violations for failing to maintain his status as a registered student at an academic institution.’
ICE notes that before an immigration detainer could be issued, Mota was released on bond.
Lake, a television reporter-turned-Republican gubernatorial candidate topped Hobbs in the polls in early October after months of the Democrat consistently polling 5-7 points higher.Â
The drop-off is likely due to Hobbs’ refusal to debate Lake ahead of Election Day on November 8.Â
