NFL rookie Brian Robinson completes incredible comeback SIX WEEKS after being shot

Washington Commanders rookie Brian Robinson has completed his remarkable comeback this weekend to play against the Titans, just six weeks after being shot twice in an attempted carjacking.

The 23-year-old Alabama native was the victim of gunshot wounds to his leg and hip on August 28, when he was shot while leaving a restaurant in the Near Northeast neighborhood of Washington DC.

Robinson underwent surgery on the injuries, which occurred just a week before he was set to make his NFL debut, in a devastating blow for the running back.

Robinson returned to the Commanders’ facility on August 30, two days after the shooting 

Now, though, he has made an incredible comeback and it has been confirmed he will play this weekend against Tennessee, just six weeks on from his injuries.

Video of him running out onto the FedEx Field was shared by the Commanders on Twitter on Sunday, with the caption: ‘Comeback complete’.

The Commanders activated Robinson from the practice squad ahead of the game, despite just one week of practice for the rookie since his ordeal.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport said on Saturday that the plan for Robinson was to give him around 20 snaps during the game on Sunday, as a back-up to Antonio Gibson, but that he will eventually become the starter for the team.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Commanders coaching staff were excited about the rookie’s return, with coach Ron Rivera noting: ‘If Robinson’s ready, he’ll go. 

‘No reservations. He was a little sore on Wednesday, but came back Thursday and responded nicely. Friday was another positive day. We’re pretty fired up.’

Adding to that, offensive co-ordinator Scott Turner said: ‘He looked great at practice.

‘He’s not going to come in and just carry the ball 30 times. It’s his first time ever playing in the NFL too. 

‘He’s a rookie, so there’s going to be a period of kind of getting him going. But I think we’re all excited.

‘Everyone is excited about his personal story and incredible recovery, but Robinson the player should boost the Commanders offense.

‘He’s going to give us some juice and that physical presence and just a good all-around back.’
