Tom Parker‘s widow Kelsey has opened up about his tell-all memoir set to be released in July which gives an insight into their lives. 

The Wanted star aged 33, following a battle with brain cancer after he was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma in October 2020, and was given just 12 months to live by doctors.

She joined Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty on Thursday morning’s BBC Breakfast show to discuss the book and what it means to her.

Charlie asked Kelsey how she’s been doing and she replied: ‘That’s a hard question to answer but I’m doing okay. I’m really strong and getting through each day.

The singer revealed he was in the process of writing a tell-all memoir amid his battle with brain cancer one week before his death.  

He took to Instagram to share the news with his fans and announce that the book would be released in July.

He said that the book, called Hope, isn’t going to be about ‘dying’ but about ‘living’ and ‘finding hope’ no matter what situation you are in.

When discussing the book and his story, Kelsey said: ‘Tom was this guy from Bolton that didn’t have a lot of training and then launched himself into this boyband and that in itself is amazing 

‘When he was diagnosed they told him this is it, it’s terminal stage four and I said Tom we’ve just got to get through this, we’ve got to be as positive as possible and draw on everything we can’

Tom wrote in his book that he felt everything was being pushed on to Kelsey to which she responded: ‘Obviously I was 25 weeks pregnant with Bodhi when he was diagnosed and we were just on this whirlwind 

‘Even the labor I don’t really remember because I knew Tom had radio and chemo the next day 

‘Every day we just went for it and I think it was really hard for Tom because he felt bad for Bodhi that he didn’t get what Aurelia got in the beginning. I think he struggled with the connection and he felt awful 

She spoke about his writing process during his final few months: ‘All his notes on his phone were of this book. When I thought he was just laying on the sofa on his phone he was writing a book. I’m so proud of him 

Kelsey detailed how strong they both were for their family: ‘For us we decided this was a really bad situation, how can we get through it. Everything was hope and research. ‘Me and Tom were really honest and open and we were best friends, we’ve been together for so long but I couldn’t relate to him because I’ve never been through this

‘I needed to find someone who Tom could relate to so I found Dave, he’s an inspiration, he’s 8 year into this disease and they would call and could relate to each other

The tragic news of his death was confirmed by his wife Kelsey, 32, who he leaves behind along with their two children, Aurelia, two, and Bodhi, one.

Kelsey said: ‘It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side.

‘Our hearts are broken. Tom was the centre of our world and we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence.

‘We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children.’

She went on to thank everyone who has cared for Tom during his illness, adding that he fought the disease until the very end.   

A statement posted on the band’s official Instagram account read: ‘The whole Wanted family are devastated by the tragic and premature loss of our bandmate Tom Parker, who passed away peacefully at lunchtime today surrounded by his family and his band mates. 

‘Tom was an amazing husband to Kelsey, and father to Aurelia and Bodhi. He was our brother, words can’t express the loss and sadness we feel. Always and forever in our hearts.’
