A teenage girl has died after the allegedly stolen car she was travelling in crashed into a Mercedes SUV.

Emergency services were called to Mahoneys Road in the north Melbourne suburb of Thomastown about 1.10am on Sunday after an allegedly stolen Kia Cerato and the Mercedes collided.

Police and ambulance crews started performing CPR on one of the passengers of the Cerato – a 19-year-old girl from Mill Park- but she could not be revived.

A Reservoir girl, 21, who was a passenger in the Cerato was taken to Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition with upper body injuries.Ā

A man and a woman, both in their 30s, from the Mercedes were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in stable conditions.

The man is being treated for upper body injuries while the woman suffered lower body injuries, including cuts and abrasions on her legs.

Investigators believe another person was driving the Cerato but left the scene before police arrival.

Footage taken at the scene shows the Mercedes sideways in the middle of the street with debris scattered across the road.Ā 

Mahoneys Road is expected to be closed until later on Sunday morning while the scene is examined.
