Viola Davis has reached EGOT status after winning a Grammy for the audiobook performance of her memoir Finding Me.
The 57-year-old actress also made history as the third Black woman to achieve the honor, following Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson.
As the Woman King star accepted the award she said, ‘It has just been such a journey. I just EGOT!’
The acronym EGOT refers to entertainers who have earned an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.
Prior to Sunday’s annual awards show, Davis had already won an Oscar, two Tonys and an Emmy.
Making history: Viola Davis has reached EGOT status after winning a Grammy for the audiobook performance of her memoir Finding Me
‘Oh my God,’ she said while onstage. ‘I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola, to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything.’
Last month the seasoned siren told Grammy.com reaching EGOT status would be a ‘huge accomplishment.’
She thoughtfully added, ‘I think that everybody wants their life to mean something. I believe in the Cherokee birth blessing, which is, ‘May you live long enough to know why you were born.’
‘I do believe that you literally wanna blow a hole through this world in whatever way you can. A lot of people don’t know how to do that. A lot of people haven’t found that thing that they’re passionate about, that they can do.
‘Some have. But we all are looking for that, blowing a hole through this earth before we leave it. I think about that in my work a lot. I really found that thing that I love to do. So I always wanna make it meaningful.’
Viola, who hails from South Carolina, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2017 for her role as Rose Maxson in 2016’s Fences.
Before that, she earned an Emmy in 2015 for her role as Annalise Keating in series How to Get Away with Murder
NBC reported that it made her the first Black woman to win the lead drama actress award.
The Hollywood fixture has a Tony award for King Hedley II, as well as one for the Broadway production of Fences.

Viola accepted the honor in an eye-catching color blocked dress covered in sequins and fringe accents.
She showed off her impressively trim and fit figure in the body-hugging short-sleeved number.
It was long and boasted a crew neck design, as well as glittering black stripes to separate the bold shades of silver, blue, and red.
The mother-of-one — who shares daughter Genesis, 12, with husband Julius Tennon — wore her hair in a side part, letting it swell around her face in a voluminous texture.
Davis gave her family a shoutout as she thanked ‘everybody who was a part of my story, and the best chapter yet, my loves [husband and daughter]. You are my life and my joy, the best chapter in my book. Thank you!’
She donned a pair of glinting silver hoop earrings as well as a bracelet and statement-making rings.
The 65th annual awards show is being held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and is hosted by Trevor Noah.
