Victoria election 2022: Greens leader Samantha Ratnam celebrates; set to pick up Northcote, Richmond

The Greens are celebrating a Victorian election ‘greenslide’ as the left-wing minor party picks up at least two inner-city Melbourne seats. 

Premier Daniel Andrews was returned to power at Saturday’s election with voters delivering him a historic third term in majority government.

But Greens leader Samantha Ratnam also had reason to celebrate – telling supporters: ‘Melbourne is going Green!!’

The party were projected to pick up the seats of Northcote and Richmond and were ahead in Pascoe Vale as of 9.30pm, according to ABC figures.

They also retained the seats of Brunswick, Melbourne and Prahran.

Ms Ratnam told supporters the ‘greenslide continues’ – a reference to the party picking up a slew of seats at May’s federal election. 

The Green’s held onto three seats with Sam Hibbins winning in Prahran, mother-of-three Ellen Sandell in Melbourne, and Dr Tim Read in Brunswick. 

But Gabrille de Vietri for the Greens has ousted Labor in the trendy seat of Richmond with newcomer Lauren O’Dwyer’s campaign weighed down over questions about her claim to Aboriginal heritage.

While in Northcote the ABC is projecting Campbell Gome will remove the ALP’s Kat Theophanous after just one term.

The Greens are also claiming Katherine Copsey has won in the Southern Metropolitan region though ABC are yet to call the seat.

Ms Ratnam appeared jubilant as she arrived at Greens party headquarters in Richmond with Ms de Vietri to a throng of supporters.
