Victoria Derbyshire has revealed she wed her long term partner Mark Sandell as they wanted a ‘massive party to celebrate’ following her battle with breast cancer.
The Newsnight host, 54, gushed about her radio producer beau and said he was ‘incredible’ during her illness.
Victoria who is now ’embracing her 50s’ also hopes to be considered for the latest series of Strictly of Dancing.Ā Ā

The couple, who share sons Oliver, 18, and Joe, 15, tied the knot in 2018 after doctor’s gave the television host the all clear.Ā
Following 301 days of treatment including six sessions of chemotherapy and 30 sessions of radiotherapy, the mother-of-two was given the all clear with an 11 per cent chance of the cancer recurring.Ā
She toldĀ Woman & Home:Ā ‘Mark totally stepped up. He was incredible. He did everything to look after me and the boys’.Ā

‘We got married after I got the all-clear. We wanted to have a massive party and celebrate with our boys, Mark’s daughter ā my stepdaughter, Lizzie ā and with our family and friends’. It was amazing,’
She went on to reveal her secret to a happy relationship was laughter: ‘Mark is really funny and that is just a joy’.Ā
‘You also need to realise when theĀ other person needs a bit of support. Be a team. And don’t sweat the small stuff.Ā

She went on to discuss the death ofĀ Dame Deborah James, who sadly lost her own battle with cancer aged just 40 in June 2022.
‘On the day she [Deborah] died, my mum texted me saying, ‘Vic, I love you so much, I’m really feeling it for Deborah’s family.’ Because I was lucky’.
‘None of us know how long we’ve got, so I want to have incredible life experiences and enjoy it.’

One thing she hopes to take a shot at is strutting her stuff to the Glitterball trophy as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
She said: ‘If I get asked to do Strictly ā which I honestly don’t think I will be ā I’d totally consider it. I’m not sure if it would be the right thing to do because I do Newsnight’.
‘But hey, I did I’m a Celebrityā¦ two years ago, and now I’m doing Newsnight and people are cool with it. People are less likely to put you in boxes these days. ‘

She then went on to discuss ageing and said she was now ’embracing her 50’s’.
‘MyĀ sister had a 50th birthday party in August and she had a board of pictures of us when we were younger and my god, I looked ridiculous!’Ā
She laughed: ‘No fashion sense and stupid make-up. I hope I’ve learnt to look a bit less stupid and a bit more elegant.’Ā
