The Duchess of Sussex can be seen beaming as she greets one of the women from the Grenfell community kitchen in a previously unseen picture from 2018.

The photograph of  Meghan Markle, 40, who is currently living in her $14 million mansion in California with Prince Harry, 37, having stepped back from royal duty, was shared by The Hubb Community Kitchen on Facebook

In the snap, which was taken at the Royal Foundation Dinner 2018, the Duchess can be seen wearing a strapless black dress by designer Roland Mouret and glittering diamond earrings.

Meghan and Prince Harry first visited The Hubb Community Kitchen in 2018 after the fire at the North Kensington tower block claimed the lives of 72 people, with the Duchess going on to launch a cookbook to raise money for the organisation.

The photo emerged today after volunteers at the community kitchen revealed the Duchess sent them a ‘thoughtful’ voice note to mark the five-year anniversary of the blaze.

The event was the Royal Foundation’s autumn dinner at Victoria House in London.

Sharing the photograph online earlier this week, the organisation wrote: ‘Royal foundation dinner 2018. The three course meal was all recipes from the together cookbook.’

Meghan, who was at the time pregnant with her son Archie, looked radiant in a strapless navy Roland Mouret gown in the Aldrich style, which appeared to have been customised with a fuller skirt.

Although photos from the annual dinner aren’t usually released to the public, singer Tom Walker previously shared a number of pictures from inside the party.

The snap emerged today after voluntary staff at the kitchen shared on their Facebook page how the Duchess had been in touch this week asking about their welfare and sharing news of her own children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one.

They wrote: ‘Today is a day spent looking back, remembering and reflecting. I just found this picture of us all, on the day our cookbook came out.

‘The Duchess had wrapped a book for each one of us and wrote a lovely message to each lady on the first page.’

The comment continued: ‘Always very thoughtful, today we received a lovely voice message from the Duchess, being the 5 years anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy, asking how we are, about our children and families and giving us news of hers. Just being her beautiful kind self.’

Last week, the page also praised the couple for staying in touch in the years since their visit, saying: ‘Many times they surprised us, be it flowers, a picture, chocolates, a phone call…they don’t have to. still they do. Because they are a genuinely kind couple.’

Meghan first visited the west London centre in 2018, when it was set up by a number of local women to provide meals to neighbours affected by the Grenfell fire.

Since then, the duchess has made several other private trips to the kitchen and helped them produce a cookbook, which she launched in September 2018, raising over £500,000 for the charity.

One of those visits was reported to have happened in December 2018, when Prince Harry joined his wife to see the work himself first-hand, on a Thursday evening.

In June 2021, the couple sent sweet treats and a thoughtful letter to the women behind the community kitchen to mark International Women’s Day.

Delicious-looking cupcakes decorated with fruit were given to the volunteers behind the kitchen via the Luminary Bakery, a small independent London bakery that Meghan has worked with in recent years as it aims to ’empower women’.

The latest image emerges as royal biographer and journalist Duncan Larcombe  told Closer magazine that Meghan and Prince Harry are in the ‘last chance saloon’ with the royal family and will be ‘cut off’ if they leak anything from Jubilee.

He said: ‘If anything from the weekend leaked, I imagine they will be totally cut off and that’ll be it.’

Elsewhere Duncan explained: ‘They have come to the UK and to the Jubilee and really cemented themselves as royals again, which is great for their brand and something that Spotify, Netflix and Penguin will be eating up.’

He revealed how their ‘behavior going forward’ would dictate their future with the family.

Saying the royal family had ‘extended an olive branch’ to the couple at the Jubilee, he added: ‘Harry and Meghan would ruin that if any private information about this weekend was spoken about to the press or revealed in a book.’

Duncan also said the Sussexes had visited the UK to ‘mend fences’, but ran into a ‘brick wall’ with some senior royals instead.
