Two dead as light planes crash into each other in mid-air at Kybong, Queensland

Two people have died in a tragic mid-air collision between two aircraft in south-east Queensland that created a loud bang heard by farm workers.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the air crash at Kybong, just south of Gympie on Wednesday afternoon.

But despite their efforts one person from each aircraft died at the scene.

Reports say a plane collided with a glider it was towing then both crashed into a paddock, the Courier Mail reported.

Nearby farm workers reported hearing a loud explosion at the accident.

The incident was reported to emergency services around 2.50pm.
