Instagram vs reality: Tourist exposes the hilarious split view from her stunning hostel in Bali

  • A Bali tourist has revealed the polarising view from outside her holiday hostel
  • Dutch tourist Luna De Fauw showed the glamorous and real side of the hotspot
  • She took to TikTok to show the pool before panning to a muddy building site

A tourist has uncovered the stark reality of how different Bali can be depending on the location as she showed off the stunning view from her hostel – before realising her surroundings.

Dutch traveller Luna De Fauw took to TikTok in December to post a video of the view from her hostel balcony in Canggu, Bali.

She started her video by showing off the insta-worthy pristine pool sitting inside the hostel grounds before panning across to a muddy patch of land with half-built homes in the distance.

Ms De Fauw’s footage, which was captioned with ‘Bali Insta vs real life’, showed the bright blue pool-side tranquility with lined-up deck lounges, manicured lawns and palm trees.

It then panned over to next door where there is a large muddy area with some grass and run-down houses, alongside a large construction site in the background.

Social media users took to Ms De Fauw’s post to blast Bali for being ‘overrated’ but others stuck up for the iconic Aussie tourist hotspot.

‘I don’t care what anyone says.. Bali is a vibe. Love it,’ one commenter wrote.

‘You’ve been watching too many people who think Bali is all glitz and glam on TikTok,’ said another.

Some slammed Ms De Fauw for wanting to go cheap on her Bali stay and called on her to ‘pay the price’ if she wanted something better.

But others saw the lighter side of it by commenting on the muddy grassy area next to the hostel.

‘We love the alternative beach,’ one joked.

It comes after other TikTokkers posted similar footage from the holiday hotspot showing idyllic villa beauty right next door to muddy swamps during this holiday season.

In November, UK tourist Victoria Goulbourne took to TikTok to post the reality of her stay.

Her footage showed a crystal clear pool, swaying palm trees, a deck and chairs before panning over to a muddy swamp just behind the villa, with the filthy creek flowing through it.

Social media users suggested she should go in the dry season next time.

‘Probably went during the wrong season and not the best villa location,’ said one commenter.

‘The place I stayed in Bali was right on the beach and had my own plunge pool overlooking that ocean. We didn’t try to cheap out though,’ said another.
