Streets locked down as specialist police negotiate with an armed man in dramatic suburban siege – as the public are warned to ‘stay inside’

Residents of a regional town west of Brisbane have been warned to stay inside as police negotiate with a man they believe is in possession of a firearm.Ā
Queensland Police made anĀ emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in Toowoomba shortly before midday on Wednesday.
Officers arrived to search the Newtown property at about 10.45am. The reason for the search is not yet known.

Police began negotiating with the gunman upon arrival and It is understood another man is also inside the home.
An emergency situation was declared by police just before 12pm with a warning residents inĀ Tor Street, Park Street and Dalmany Street to ‘stay indoors’.
Officers evacuated some residents from Park Street and said more will be moved from the area if necessary.
All roads heading into the emergency zone have been closed.

It comes as Queensland Police hold the funeral for officersĀ Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold who were fatally shot some 185km northwest of Toowoomba in Wieambilla.
McCrow and Arnold were two of four officers sent to search the property for missing man Nathaniel Train.
However, Train, his brother and his brother’s wife Stacey shot at officers as they came towards the property’s home.
The two deceased officers were farewelled at a public funeral on Wednesday.Ā
