Tom Cruise‘s blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick passed $200 million in box office sales, after raking in another $14 million on Thursday for a $203 seven-day total.

According to Forbes, the hit action movie’s Thursday gross marked just a 4 percent drop from its Wednesday haul of $14.8 million, which dropped 6 percent from Tuesday’s $15.8 million.

As Top Gun: Maverick is not up against any other major wide releases this weekend, even with a 50 percent drop, the film is on track for $269 million ten-day total, which will cement its status as Cruise’s top-grossing movie at the domestic box office.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety have estimated that the sequel could finish the weekend with a total box office haul as high as $290 million.

The movie’s success is helping drive Paramount’s continued box office revival after the studio’s struggles over recent years.

Top Gun: Maverick has already surpassed the studio’s recent wide release Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which brought in an impressive $186 million.

After this weekend, the movie is expected to overtake Mission: Impossible — Fallout, which brought in $220 million in 2018, and Transformers: Age of Extinction’s $245 million gross in 2014.

With an estimated $269 million take, Top Gun: Maverick will become Paramount’s biggest domestic grosser since Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon topped the box office with $353 million in 2013.

The movie’s success harkens back to Paramount’s unrivaled reign over the box from 2007 to 2011, when the studio released big-budget blockbusters including Thor, Captain America, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Transformers 3.

Paramount’s roster included the distribution of massive DreamWorks Animation hits such as Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Puss in Boots, Shrek the Third, Shrek Forever, Madagascar and Madagascar 2.

The studio launched Phase One of the MCU but lost distribution rights to the mega-franchise when Disney bought Marvel in 2009.

In recent years, Paramount has grappled with its own flagging franchises and a series of box office misfires.

In addition, the growing popularity of streaming services and home theaters, exacerbated by lockdowns amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has taken a brutal toll on theatrical releases.

However, with the success of Top Gun: Maverick and an upcoming slate that includes Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1, Scream 6 and A Quiet Place II, the studio looks poised to continue its hot streak.
