Tom Cruise v Prince William…Who’s the real Top Gun? Pictures show startling similarities

Pictured side-by-side, it’s hard to tell if Prince William is better suited to the Top Gun lead than Tom Cruise

Ahead of the latest action-packed movie, Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise has been doing the rounds to promote his latest gig.

But when you put some of Mr Cruise’s most iconic shots next to some of our very own Prince William, many similarities can be drawn.

Even pictures with co-star Jennifer Connelly, Tom Cruise looks strikingly alike Prince William stood looking lovingly at his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Pictured sat on a motorbike complete with a leather jacket in the 1989 movie, Mr Cruise looks a lot like when Wills jumped on a TT bike on the Isle of Man.

And parallels can definitely drawn between photos of the Duke as a real helicopter pilot and Cruise’s character pictured flying a F-14 jet in the first Top Gun film.

The actor, who stars as the titular Maverick in the film, flashed a glimpse of his pearly whites as he waved to the crowds at Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday ahead of the premier of the second Top Gun movie.

Tom, who is famous for doing his own stunts, is said to have trained to withstand g-force power and actually flew in real fighter jets for the sequel.

Peter Hoskin for the Daily Mail gave the film five stars, writing: ‘Whenever the film threatens to become too cosy, it shocks itself – and us – back into the present with another madly ambitious action sequence.’

In the meantime, Prince William has been continuing on in his regular royal duties, after today making an appearance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Wednesday to pay tribute to the Royal Navy’s submariners and their families, where he gave a short speech.

These are some of the best (and most similar) shots of Prince William and Tom Cruise side-by-side…
