Today show Karl Stefanovic makes a shady remark about ‘working with divas’ days after his reunion with Lisa Wilkinson following their ‘pay gap’ row

Today host Karl Stefanovic made a potentially revealing remark about ‘working with divas’ at Channel Nine during a radio interview on Wednesday.

He made the eyebrow-raising comment on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, just days after reuniting with his former Today co-anchor Lisa Wilkinson.

The pair had briefly chatted and posed for photos together at a Logie Awards nominations party on the Gold Coast on Sunday – marking the first time they’d met in person since Wilkinson released a tell-all book about her exit from Nine in late 2017.

Stefanovic, 47, alluded to working with ‘divas’ while defending current co-host Ally Langdon, 42, who was accused in a newspaper article on Sunday of ‘throwing a tantrum’ after being overlooked by Nine for the network’s election night coverage.

‘[Langdon] is the hardest-working person at Channel Nine. She comes into work with a broken leg [and] has punched out more great political interviews that anyone else at the network,’ he said.

‘[For her to] be fashioned into some kind of diva person for missing out on an election, I think that’s absolutely disgusting.

‘I’ve worked with divas, and…’

At this point, radio host Kyle Sandilands interrupted to say: ‘Yes, I saw you ran into her during the week[end].’

Stefanovic and Langdon both laughed at this wry remark – which was clearly a reference to Wilkinson – but refused to say anything more.

Sandilands’ co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson didn’t seem to get the joke, and asked: ‘I don’t know who you ran into.’

However, Stefanovic did clarify that the biggest divas he’s worked with are men.

Stefanovic and Wilkinson, who co-hosted the Today show from 2007 to 2017, reunited on Sunday on the Gold Coast at an event announcing the 2022 Logie Awards nominees.

They looked amicable as they were pictured in public together for the first time since Wilkinson released a tell-all book detailing her time at Channel Nine.

The 62-year-old told The Daily Telegraph: ‘It was lovely to see Karl, and a reminder to both of us of the many great years we spent together.’

In her memoir, It Wasn’t Meant to Be Like This, Wilkinson made a series of claims about Stefanovic and how she left Nine over a reported gender pay gap dispute.

She claimed the pay disparity between her and Stefanovic when they hosted the Today show was once ‘so off the charts that no-one would have believed it’.

However, it was later reported that Wilkinson had actually earned more than Stefanovic for years at the start of their on-air partnership, and it wasn’t until Seven tried to poach him that he was able to negotiate the bigger salary.

Wilkinson failed to mention this important detail in her memoir, instead focusing on the pay disparity during her later years at the helm of Today.
