Inmates escape a tough Australian jail and have been on the run from cops for more than TEN hours
- Three Indigenous men escaped from Holtze Correctional Facility near Darwin
- The trio were still on the run on Thursday morning, 11 hours after they escaped
- Authorities urge people to be vigilant and to call triple-0 but not approach
An urgent search has been launched for three inmates on the run after escaping jail in the Northern Territory.
The three men escaped from Holtze Correctional Facility near Darwin around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night.
The trio were housed in low-security cottages for inmates who regularly leave the correctional facility to work in the community.
How they escaped from the facility 30km east of Darwin remains unclear, and they’ve been on the run for more than 11 hours.

‘We had patrols out last night and inquiries are continuing with their known associates and their addresses,’ Northern Watch Commander Meacham King said.
‘Based on their correctional history we don’t anticipate they pose a risk to the community but we’re asking people to remain vigilant.
‘If you see them call triple-0, do not to approach them.’
Authorities are expected to release more details about the inmates on Thursday.
Also known as Darwin Correctional Centre, Holtze is a minimum to maximum security prison with a capacity for up to 1028 inmates.
