Three football fans are arrested after climbing onto the roof of Anfield to watch Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid ‘when they were unable to get tickets’

Football fans were arrested after they climbed onto the roof of Anfield to watch Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Kain Hogg, 23, and two of his friends scaled the famous stadium after they became frustrated that they were unable to buy tickets for the game.

Anfield is currently undergoing redevelopment work, so they snuck in through the connecting construction site.

They reached the top and watched two thirds of the match before they were caught by stewards and arrested by Merseyside Police.

They are due to appear in court next month charged with ticket evasion, entering enclosed premises and obtaining services dishonestly.

Kain Hogg, 23, climbed Liverpool’s Anfield stadium to watch their Champion’s League clash on Tuesday

Kain, originally from Kendal, Cumbia, said: ‘Tickets were sold out so the roof was our only option.

‘We’re very sorry to Liverpool FC and to the police that had to deal with the situation.’

Liverpool played Real Madrid at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday.

It was a sell out match so when they were unable to buy tickets, Kain and his friends gained access to the ground through a construction site at the Anfield Road End.

They crossed some scaffolding and climbed a ladder to the roof of the stadium where they watched the first half uninterrupted.

They were wearing high-vis jackets to look like staff, and their plan was working, until a security guard came up to and questioned them.

After talking to the young men it became obvious to the guard they weren’t supposed to be there and he called the police.

They will appear at Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts on March 27.

Kain, who records climbing videos for his YouTube channel, said they got into the building and waited for two hours before the game to get on the roof.

He added: ‘When we were forced to come down we were surrounded by about 30 policemen and we spent 20 hours in a cell before being charged.

‘We didn’t mean to upset anyone, we just wanted to watch our team play football in the Champion’s League.’

Merseyside Police and Liverpool Football Club have been approached for comment.
